Generic American Road Vehicle Set (GARVS) (Better name later?)
SO Slowly I'll be working on an American Themed Generic Road Vehicle Set, with some style influences and coding from Road Hog.
For now I'll be doing some Busses, Articulated Buses, Coaches, Rigid Trucks, Semi-Trailers, and Double's (Semi-Trailers with a 2nd trailer)
For now, heres something like a GMC Old Look loosely based on the Toronto Transit Commission Old Look Style
I know it might not be the best sprite around, but for now I want to get something half decent out so I can get through everything I want to do and get things coded.
NEXT UP : NYC Style GMC New Look

Re: Generic American Road Vehicle Set (GARVS) (Better name later?)
I made some minor improvements that I forgot to fix before I called it a day with the GMC Old Look, so heres the improved version (like fixed some diagonal width issues and forgot to add shading to the tires and one of the diagonal sprites windows where fixed too)
Pretty much anything I put my Avitar picture on is considered "Done" by me, its kinda like a Stamp of approval from me
I have some stuff to do today but I hope to at least get a New York Style GMC New-Look done, and if I have time, I'll get to redoing the Orion I sprite that I lost... I still can't believe I saved over it by starting work on another bus (the New Flyer D40) and then didn't Export/Save as a new picture. oh well, the Orion sprite wasn't made to the current standards I want to follow.
On a side note, I'll definately have to use 8/8 size sprites for Coaches as modern ones in North America tend to be large and long, usually requiring tandem rear axles to better distribute the weight and improve ride comfort (especially when going down the highways in Canada or USA at 80-120 Km\h). I rather enjoy the sound of modern coaches going by, they sound so much more impresive and modern then the usual City Transit busese (Coaches like the D4500 usually have more of a Whoosh or Vroom sound rather then a rumbling or grumbly sound that normal buses have)

Re: Generic American Road Vehicle Set (GARVS) (Better name later?)
Well I now have 2 buses done for my road vehicle set. Future name still pending.
I did a few more minor touch ups to the GMC Old Look as well as the finished GMC New Look. The new look isn't 100% accurate but this road vehicle set I want to do is just mostly suppose to "Look North American" and thus may not look 100% like the vehicles I'm basing the designs off of.
Old Look = Toronto Transit Commission Style
New Look = New York City MTA Style

Re: Generic American Road Vehicle Set (GARVS) (Better name later?)
I finally got it done! Better then before! The Orion 1 bus in York Region Style!
This one was a bit more difficult for some reason because today I couldn't draw rectangles....
EDIT : Looks like a New Flyer D40 wasn't hard to make, just had to change up the Orion 1 sprite. This time I chose Saskatoon Transit.

So I finally have the Novabus LFS-40 done, took me a while because of its more modern look and the fact that I ended up drinking and then spending two days feeling like crap.
I tried to give it the Oshawa Transit Commission livery, though the OTC has been merged with some other separate agencies in Durham Region to form the "Durham Region Transit"

SO....
Now that I have the buses done, I'm now working on the coaches.
I have two sprites I've finished in the last two days.
We have an ACF/Brill IC-41 and a GMC Scenicruiser, both which are loosely designed off of Greyhounds liveries.
NEXT UP : MCI MC-9, MCI D4500, and an Enviro500 Double Decker Coach.

Re: Generic American Road Vehicle Set (GARVS) (Better name later?)
Finally got all the Coach Buses out of the way! After this its on to figuring out how to make Articulated buses look good.
We have 3 sprites to show off this time.
A MCI MC-9 loosely based off of Greyhounds livery for their MC-9's
A MCI D4500 mostly based off of GO Transit in Ontario
and lastely
An Alexander Dennis (formerly Transbus) Enviro 500 based off of GO Transits current (as of 2017) livery.
Enjoy!

Re: Generic American Road Vehicle Set (GARVS) (Better name later?)
3 Articulated buses down, 2 more to go, then its on to drawing the Early buses that cover 1900 to 1930. Anything before that will be covered by horse drawn wagons.
I redid the MAN SG220 to clean up some things and what not.
We now have a 1957 Kassbohrer Setra (A handful where made by Kassbohrer for a Colorado company), MAN SG220, and an Orion III. The last two I have to draw up are a New Flyer D60LF and NABI 60-BRT (which will probably be a pain in the ass to draw being much more modern looking)

Re: Generic American Road Vehicle Set (GARVS) (Better name later?)
Well I got the last two Articulated buses done! The New Flyer D60LF was a pain in the ass for some reason, partially because I wasn't feeling it after a while.
Then we have the NABI 60-BRT, which actually went rather smoothly and I rather enjoyed figuring out how to make it look curvy.
LASTLY, I also tried my hand at an early bus, though its not exact but I think it looks old enough for a very early 1900's bus, inspired by the 1906 Daimler Omnibus

Some other bus/coach manufacturers to consider: Blue Bird, Thomas, Girardin, StarTrans, IC Bus (Navistar International, fka American Transportation Corporation aka AmTrans), Freightliner, NABI, Flxible, DINA.

I did think about some of them, but I ended up doing buses that I could find good liveries and pictures food (including both sides, the front, and the back).
Also Blue Bird might get a nod when I add 2 School Buses just for fun A regular long bus and a mini school bus.

I havent coded them just yet, as I still have 1 more bus to do, and then I'd like to set up some rough specs so I have something to code rather then just comming up with numbers on the spot and having things get weird because I forgot with one bus or truck what i did.andythenorth wrote:So have you coded any of these yet? If Road Hog is working right, the makefile will also build you some html docs in the 'docs' folder. This makes it easier to check vehicle stats (you'll get a code reference page similar to this http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/road-hog ... rence.html)NekoMaster wrote:...and having things get weird because I forgot with one bus or truck what i did.

Ahh, thats nice, though I still like having some spec's written down so I can quickly run through the code and have something to play with.andythenorth wrote:If Road Hog is working right, the makefile will also build you some html docs in the 'docs' folder. I'm doing the same for a mod for Game Dev Tycoon, I compiled a whole bunch of console and computer information like dates and units sold and now that i have my spread sheet filled out I can get on to making some "crappy placeholder graphics" and then coding which should go relatively quickly so long as I don't screw up any syntax or numbers.
