[Base Music] Scott Joplin Anthology Set v3

Post by kamnet »

ABOUT THE SCOTT JOPLIN ANTHOLOGY
The Scott Joplin Anthology is a collection of 31 musical works from American composer Scott Joplin, a/k/a "the King of Ragtime".

Joplin's classic Ragtime pieces are best enjoyed in early OpenTTD games, particularly between 1890 and 1930. This collection is available for download in this post and from the BaNaNaS in-game content download service.

Installation
For all versions of OpenTTD which support the in-game content downloading service (BaNaNaS), simply select the set from the in-game menu.

This set is not usable in OpenTTD versions prior to 1.0.0-beta1.

For versions 1.0.x-1.1.x, you can unpack the files into the /gm directory, or a subdirectory thereof. It is not advisable to unpack the files into the /content_download/gm directory.

For versions 1.2.x and newer, you can unpack the files into the /baseset directory, or a subdirectory thereof. It is not advisable to unpack the files into the /content_download/baseset directory.

ABOUT THE OPENTTD MUSIC REPLACEMENT PROJECT
The OpenTTD Music Replacement Project was started by Kevin Fields (kamnet) on the tt-forums.net message boards on December 26, 2009. The OpenTTD Music Replacement Project is a community-based effort to provide new base music files which can be distributed with the game and completely free OpenTTD from any dependencies on having the TTD files in order to enjoy a full, robust game.

For more information about the project, please visit the OpenTTD Wiki at http://wiki.openttd.org/Music_replacement_project

The I have to ask: "what's the trouble"?
EDIT: saw the mail :-)
EDIT2: I don't find an error, most notable as it just works here. Great stuff! :-) I do propose you meanwhile just attach the music set here (as a zip of the tar). If it's fine with you I might try myself to upload it; I didn't do it so that it wouldn't show as my stuff it it surprisingly worked for me.
EDIT3: maybe it's the capitalization of filenames...

I tried switching it all over to lower-case filenames for both the files and listing in the OBM file, didn't work. I give up. Feel free to try to upload it to BaNaNaS yourself, I take no offense :D

I like this collection, thank you! :) (and of course thanks to Scott Joplin for composing that :) )
Is it intentional that it contains 'The Entertainer' twice in the main playlist? (no. 1 and 11)

It kinda/sorta is. When I started I had no guidance on how to make the playlist. I thought the title song was only used just for the intro screen, so I thew it in the playlist again. I don't think I need to find another song to replace the duplication.

Nope, not at all. I originally released this just to demonstrate what alternate music in OpenTTD could be like and inspire contributions to the Music Replacement Project. But without a declared license, I couldn't have it included in BaNaNaS for in-game download or for bundling with the game. This is basically just an update to include the license.

It's not so much a problem of not wanting but rather a problem of not being able to. See http://bugs.openttd.org/task/3885

Then you most probably either
- have a too old OpenTTD version
- didn't put the files in the proper directory http://vcs.openttd.org/svn/browser/tags ... 19993#L248
- didn't look in the right window http://wiki.openttd.org/Game_options_window

I'm using 1.0.2 RC of openttd, i don't have an OPENTTD folder in my documents (probably due to having the openttd.cfg file in my openttd dir as i run it of my usb stick)
I've been playing the game no problems, just cant get this music anthology to work....
Any more ideas?

Then you should have a content_download/gm directory in your OpenTTD folder, you should put the music pack there. If it still doesn't work, unpack it and try again.

The files by default extract to a folder called Scott_Joplin, i have that folder in my "content_download\gm\opnmsx-0.2.1" folder.
I have tried just the files in the "content_download\gm\opnmsx-0.2.1"
and "content_download\gm", and "content_download\gm\scott_joplin", and "openttd\gm" and "openttd\gm\scottjoplin"
