simutrans graphics on open ttd
Simutrans has great graphics and openttd is has a better gameplay if we mix simutrans graphics with openttd it would be great. sorry for my bad english.
Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
i wonder if that's possible...
hmmm
surely it is, but that would almost be like remaking the game
surely someone on the forums could do that
but that would be nice

Nothing holds you from making a base graphics set that consists entirely out of Simutrans graphics.

Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
though wouldn't you need to get permisson first from the guy that made the graphics since hum and some others made the base graphics that come with simutrans download? Also theres the problem of 32bit graphics to palletised 8bit conversion problem, though you could try makeing a grf with the place holders and have the graphics in a tar file like the 32bpp Graphics Replacement.

The simutrans pak64 graphics are Artistic licence; as long as it is not sold, you can use them. However mixing simutrans and OpenTTD gives quite different shadows and scales.
Imho the OpenTTD grphics are much more homogeneous, since they are made by a small number of people (1) and did not suffer a 8 to 32 bit transition and constant replacing and extension.
And for pak96 comic there is already an conversion of buildings underway. Rescaled of course to 64 px size. (See in the graphics section). Since simutrans has much more houses and vechiles available in basis set, you need to do a newgrf, imho.
(And I find your statement funny, usually people feel the other way round about those games.)

Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
well, There's no accounting for taste, but imho with grfs like swedish houses or total town replacement or the Japanese set OTTD looks damn good as it is.
Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
I think viktorht was counting getting those exact graphics into OpenTTD, he seems to like those better.
Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
Wasn't somebody already working on this? Or was it vice-versa, bringing OTTD graphics to Simutrans?

I started porting the comic houses over to OpenTTD. A snapshot of the current status can be found here.kamnet wrote:Wasn't somebody already working on this? Or was it vice-versa, bringing OTTD graphics to Simutrans?

Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
BTW, im not sure if anyone noticed this before, but the ECS Vectors uses graphics from Simutrans, eg. the Sand Pit is actually a Simutrans Iron Ore Mine.

Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
really? I didn't notice that...
well, then again, I don't really use the ESC vectors, but I sure do play Simutrans.

Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
There has been a conversion of simutrans with TTD graphics (can be seen here) but as I understand it it was never popular, and of dubious legality. A full conversion of simutrans to TTD would be possible now with OpenGFX though.kamnet wrote:Wasn't somebody already working on this? Or was it vice-versa, bringing OTTD graphics to Simutrans?
Re: simutrans graphics on open ttd
Some of it is in the sourceforge SVN, but I am currently just lacking time to complete it.
