Celest,

It is nice to see someone posting scenarios.

No matter how many mods we build. If we dont have maps, the mods are wasted.

I actually really quite enjoy making the Scenarios.

I don't like playing against AI competitors though, because they have such a stupid way of building tracks - it makes my map look messy! I mainly just like the building of the tracks and creating a pretty system that...sort of works. I hope people enjoy the Scenarios I posted, even if they are a little on the simple side! I only just found all the amazing mods people have created - I sort of took a break from Locomotion whilst I quenched a Guild Wars addiction...some people have done some amazing jobs on those BR sets etc.. so I've been trying to update some of my scenarios to make use of ome of these great mods.

Wow, these scenarios are very good looking - I'll have to try one when I get the time. :D

That I can totally agree with the computer no matter how hard you try always screws you up and plus the AI can do things you aren't allowed too

great maps dude, can you give some advice for making scenarios, I have good ideas, but the map editor is so hard to use

May the force be with you.
For little boys, three things reign as supreme attention-keepers: tanks, heavy construction equipment, and trains, we all know why where here.

"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music."

With maps that aren't created by a random map and tweaked I use a plain block of green land, and wherever there is to be a coastline I lower the land - be sure to keep in mind the shape of the land you're wanting to create...often helps to have a map standing by with a big square drawn over it to show which section will be in your scenario. Then I'll have the shape of the land surrounded by a ditch. I can then tweak this "line" until I'm happy with it (keeping an eye on the minimap), and then lower the rest of the land to form the water. Sticking in hills and towns is pretty easy.

If you find creating a map tricky, let the map generator do it for you, then all you need to do is play around with the coastline, tweak hills, add towns etc.. If you check out my Hyland Island scenario that's exactly what I've done there.

I get a much greater sense of accomplishment starting from scratch when making them, and I find completely flat lands often boring. My greatest work to date I think is the Arctic Ocean scenario, which I am currently testing after having re-created the scenario with AmTrak mods, amongst others, and I'll get around to re-posting that for anyone who's interested...since I started playing Locomotion again I'm loving the mods which I never played about with last time.

Off subject at bit but - The Mods are the only reason I can not put this game away. I guess cause I'm from the US I really like the freight work. But I have started really like the high speed action of the BR set and some of the other High Speed trains. I think it is great that you and other people are starting to put out some more scenarios. I'm to critical of my own work and have not ever liked any of the scenarios I have tried to make. So I end up giving up before they are ever complete. I hope everyone keeps up the great work.

Back on subject I going to get this downloaded and some fun tomorrow I hope.

Plastik...

Hear hear! I wholly agree. Will download scenario immediately.

EDIT: OK, I downloaded it. Admittedly, though it's good, it's a bit easy (I downloaded it and beat the map in 1yr 6mos).

Sorry! I take no notice of the difficulty really, I just enjoy building pretty tracks and making it all run smoothly!

I like the map, just returned from holidays on the Caledonian Canal and tried it out. Very nice, wish we could have locks in Locomotion too.

BTW, what stock did run on the now defunct Invergarry-Fort Augustus railway?

Always start with a basic 4-5 colour map you can handraw in Paint then change it to a 384x384 pixel in something Arcsoft Photoshop. Then convert it using Irfan View to greyscale

Once you have the pixel size right its trial and error to convert it I tend to use North America as the Britain Option for some unknown reason is very slow to load. Play with the sealevels to get what you are happy with and also just remember if you get large changes in land levels to use the change level tool in the editor to pull the slopes down to a reasonable shape. You might make mistakes but you learn from them and will create landscapes that are playable for everyone as the users of them will set what they want in terms of objectives, industries and skill levels.

I find half the fun is creating the landscape to what you like, the only issue is the time a good handcrafted landscape takes to create.

Very good basic discussion on how to create a landscape and which I learnt from to start with
