Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots - British Transport Board
Take a look at the allocations for 20th June 1962.
This list's quite long, and it's really just because I like being thorough.
Note the services marked. These services are currently being curtailed short or cancelled entirely due to the quadrupling and electrification of the West Coast Main Line (many photos to come).

Major anger in the smaller towns that their service has been cut, yes.

Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots - British Transport Board
The West Coast Modernisation Project - tied into the eventual end of steam - will see the quadrupling and electrification of this extremely busy trunk route. Serving the cities of Poole, Newcastle, Cresswell and Bingley, it is considered a major route for the future.
The line will be upgraded in the following phases:
1a. Removal of middle road on station approach to Cambridge, electrification of remaining double line.
1b. Electrification of railway between Cambridge North Junction and Bingley.
1c. Quadrupling and electrification of railway to Sudbury.
2a. Remodelling of Sudbury Junction to allow faster running to the Southern Main Line.
2b. Quadrupling and electrification of line to Reedham (incorporating former Turnback Siding).
2c. Quadrupling and electrification of line between Reedham and Cresswell.
3a. Remodelling of Cresswell Junction.
3b. Quadrupling and electrification of line between Cresswell and Newcastle.
3c. Quadrupling and electrification of line between Newcastle and Whitehaven.
4a. Remodelling and electrification of Poole approach lines.
4b. Electrification of Poole-Yeovil Line.
4c. Electrification of Poole Goods Yard Line.
5. Supplementary electrification of Poole-Reading line.
6. Resignalling of entire line.
This work is expected to take around 3 years and will coincide with the Class 310 and Class 86 introductions to get the most out of the new line. Trains will continue to run at reduced rates in the meantime. The mass withdrawal of the steam classes from the West Coast will disperse across the network, and the entire service will be evaluated.

Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots - British Transport Board
Shot from the West Coast Main Line project:
Reedham North Junction had proved to be a headache for engineers quadrupling the West Coast Main Line as the fast line had been designated to the tracks on the right hand side (facing north). As such, this meant that at Sudbury, Reedham and Cresswell, amongst many other minor junctions, the fast lines would meet diverging slower traffic.
To combat this issue, engineers made provision for the building of many flying junctions. One of these is at Reedham, where two terminii platforms were added for trains from the east. These trains would pass under the four tracks and sweep left into the new platforms. For trains using the chord to head north, the original connection remained, with the fast line passing over the top. Northbound express services could then access the fast lines using a chord crossing over the Up Slow line. (This is a little bit too "refined" and "efficient" for me, but I like how it's worked out)
(Note how this compares with pre-modified Reedham North Jn)

Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots - British Transport Board
Reedham North Chord has since been remodelled again to provide a non-stop path between the Reedham Loop Line and the northbound WCML Fast.
Meanwhile, it's 1966 and the end of steam is nigh. Stay tuned for plenty of photos documenting the movement and eventual scrap of trains.

Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots - British Transport Board
First picture in forever! 10 years to be precise!
Steam has gone and the West Coast Main Line is now entirely electrified. Freight services are on the increase during an economic boom (the game certainly does like opening as many industries as possible at this stage!)
This image of Newcastle sums up the way this game is going at the minute. It's pretty organic, and rather than one size fits all in terms of model usage, I'm using pretty much every diesel available to me (apart from the shunters, which I've never used).
Just the one screen, but enjoy... Few surprises coming up as this game wears on.
Here we see no less than 7 trains in the Newcastle area at once. In Newcastle Yard, 20021 and 20022 idle on one of the avoiding lines with 6K01 - the Knutsford Pit to Whitehaven Power Station diagram. Arriving to join them is 37003 on 6F01, an oil tanker service from Frome to Cresswell Refinery. On the West Coast Main Line itself is 76101, heading south past the yard with 1G10 - 0750 Reading Weston House-Bingley and having just called at Newcastle.
It will shortly be followed by the Poole Limited 1A05 Poole-Bingley service, today hauled by 86001. This service is scheduled to layover in platform 3 at Newcastle for 10 minutes, although there is strictly no boarding or alighting permitted, it is seen here powering out of the station about to negotiate the crossovers to the fast lines. In platform 4, the obscured train is 310001 with a semi-fast service destined for Whitehaven, Poole and Yeovil (1O23). The AM10 variant was delivered in three guises, the 3-car 303, the 2-car 309 and the 4-car 310, all of which see use across the West Coast network. The 2-car 309 can be seen in the form of 309001 with a stopping service arriving at Newcastle after stops at Frome and Prescot (2N10). About to storm past it on the fast lines is the late-running 76103 with 1P01, delayed today due to a broken window at Reedham. When operating normally it acts much like the limited, although a legitimate set-down stop at Newcastle is made.
Compare this shot of Newcastle with this similar shot from 1927 - some 45 years previous.

Nice network map - especially the penalty fares and engineering works.
Re: [OTTD] Dave Worley's Screenshots - British Transport Board
With Steam totally gone from the network, British Transport Commission has issued a list of the entire BTC fleet with their eventual fate. The final steam locomotives - 5704, 60018 and 80052 were scrapped in simultaneous ceremonies at Newcastle, Fletton and Stafford Train Maintenance Depots respectively, on New Year's Day, 1970. Thousands turned out as the locomotives were broken up in front of their very eyes.
22 steam locomotives and a diesel railcar have, along with one hundred mk1 carriages, been preserved by the BTCLG (BTC Loco Group), set up by drivers and enthusiasts alike.

I like it!
Is the game complete or are you just going to keep building/upgrading until you can fit no more in/are bored?
Hmmm....64x64 ay? Might have to try a quick game of one of them soon!

I'm already bored, only five years in, having linked one of every industry and building an electrified line between the island's two towns.

Good to have you back in the screenshotting world Dave. This looks interesting!

Like the map. Can see some good looking coastal routes being made there.
