Swedish Projects

Re: Swedish Projects
Also keep in mind that your longer articulated trucks cannot use the dead end road station type. They can only use the drive through road stations. So keeping them to a scale that fits into the dead end road station type is not that much of a priority. That said I would have to agree that a scale somewhere between George's Long Vehicles and the originals might be best. Have you had a look at Zephyris' eGRVTS? The scale there is pretty close to ideal.

Re: Swedish Projects
I definitely don't like LV, I even think your's is too big. Don't you get graphical glitches when the length is over 32 px, just as with trains?Irwe wrote:Long Vehicles are to long in my opinion. They don't even fit into the stations. But on the other hand, the original TTD vehicles are to small. So something in between should be nice.
Re: Swedish Projects
Looks like a good place for finding different trucks yes. The best would be a huge list of trucks found in sweden today and throughout history.andythenorth wrote:Irwe - right after my last PM to you I found this on my favourite blog:

Maybe all none articulated trucks could be 32 or less pixels and if they stretch beyond 32 pixels it could be articulated?AndersI wrote:I definitely don't like LV, I even think your's is too big. Re: Swedish Projects
That is a possibility. I believe the glitch-free limit is a little lower than 32px. At least that's true for trains, where it's either 30px or 28px (with code set to full lenght wagons). Someone really should investigate that...Irwe wrote:Maybe all none articulated trucks could be 32 or less pixels and if they stretch beyond 32 pixels it could be articulated?
Re: Swedish Projects
Indeed, it would be a shame if I or someone else started drawing in wrong sizes.FooBar wrote:That is a possibility. I believe the glitch-free limit is a little lower than 32px. Re: Swedish Projects
This HEQS mining truck is 36px in the horizontal direction and 30px in the diagonal. I haven't noticed any serious glitches.
However with HEQS in general, I have pushed as far as I think wise with sprite sizes. There are definitely occasional minor glitches on slopes, and they are probably also there for tunnels and bridges.
I would commend Dan MacK's scale. As far as I know Dan and Pikka have done quite a bit of work on sizes. I don't think Dan will mind me publishing these images as examples. This size is very small, but it's clear that distinctive vehicle shapes can be drawn attractively.

Re: Swedish Projects
These are verry small yes but some of the older vehicles might be small. Also the truck in the third picture is from HEQS right? Anyway it looks like a good shape and size for a common truck, how many pixels is that one?andythenorth wrote:I would commend Dan MacK's scale. Re: Swedish Projects
Yes. That scale seems to start at 32 px for the largest vehicles, and goes downwards for smaller ones. I definitely like those sizes. I think a bit of 'creative compression' is necessary for TTD sprites, we can't have absolute scale accuracy.andythenorth wrote:I would commend Dan MacK's scale.
Re: Swedish Projects
It's indeed a good show of sizes and as you said, you have to be a little creative to make it look good.
Anyway I've started on the snow roads and I've done all directions and intersections. Nothing coded yet thought so this is just a mockup.

Re: Swedish Projects
Looks quite nice, although in reality there isn't that much snow in the middle between lanes, but larger heaps on the sides.

You're right, it can be fixed easily.AndersI wrote:Looks quite nice, although in reality there isn't that much snow in the middle between lanes, but larger heaps on the sides.
Re: Swedish Projects
Maybe somewhere in between?
Re: Swedish Projects
More dirt on the road surface, perfect on the side

My Scenarios:

I've made it somewhere in between but I can't really get the dirt to look good.Chrill wrote:More dirt on the road surface, perfect on the side
