Arrgh! When editing, the reference for the Dutch ACTS wikipage got under the label "piggyback" instead under "intermodal container car".

[EDIT] -> "ACTS-Tragwagen" -> http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abrollcont ... portsystem
Sorry, I´m going to change it in my original post.

Thanks for pointing this out.

i) Passenger or Freight - Passagerare eller frakt
j) Heavy Passenger or Freight - Många passagerare eller frakt
k) Fast Passenger or Freight - Höghastighetspassagerare eller frakt
Why not use the same pattern everywhere:
Få passagerare / Lätt frakt
Passagerare / Frakt
Många passagerare / Mycket frakt
Höghastighets-passagerare / -frakt
4a) Gear Ratio - Växelförhållande
4b) Regearing - Omväxling
4c) Regearable - Möjlighet till omväxling
Utväxling
Växelbyte
Möjlighet till växelbyte
5a) HEP Generator Car - HEP-generatorsvagn
"Head End Power" and a separate car seems like an oxymoron to me? Either it is in the head end, or it is in a car of it's own? Anyway, just call it "Generatorvagn".
5b) Clerestory, Coach, Diner, Sleeper, Observation, Dome, Buffet, Baggage, Bilevel [passenger car types] - Clerestory, Vagn, Restaurangvagn, Sovvagn, Observation, Dome, Buffetvagn, Bagagevagn, Tvåvåningsvagn (Sorry, the words in red makes no sense to a passenger wagon, thus cannot be translated by me)
Clerestory could be "Lanternin" - http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanternin
Observation could be "Utsiktsvagn"
Dome could be "Panoramavagn" - http://www.jarnvag.net/vagnguide/AFS1.asp
6b) Special Feature: Tilt[ing train] - Speciella funktioner: Tilt[ande tåg]
I think "Lutningsbar" is the Swedish word for it - http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/X2000
7b) This train requires more power cars to haul more trailers - Detta tåg kräver mer kraftgenererande vagnear för att dra fler vagnar
What about "fler motoriserade vagnar" instead?
7d) This locomotive cannot heat/power passenger cars - Detta lok kan ej värma/drive passagerarvagnar
"Detta lok kan ej värma/ge kraft till passagerarvagnar"
8a) This train requires a caboose - Detta tåg kräver en kabyss
8b) A caboose is required by freight trains - Kabyss behövs på fraktlok
8c) A caboose is not required after 1975: trains will use a flashing rear-end device (FRED) instead - Kabyss behövs ej efter 1975; tåg använder en blinkade apparat bak istället
I don't think "kabyss" is right - that's the kitchen on a ship :-)
"bromsvagn" is the closest thing I can think of in Swedish railwaying.
FRED = "slutlykta"
9a) Container [a flatcar that carries containers] - Container [en plattvagn som bär containers]
9b) Piggyback [a flatcar that carries a semi-trailer] - No equivalent in Swedish [en plattvagn som bär ett lastbilssläp]
Flatcar = "Flakvagn"
Piggyback ~ "kombitransport" - http://www.tagoperatorerna.se/sitespeci ... verkan.pdf
b) Mail Car - Brevvagn
Chrill! It's called a "Postvagn"!
d) (2-Bay, Large, Covered) Hopper Car (Tvådelas, Stor, Täckt) Hoppervagn
e) Tank Car - (Olje)Cisternvagn
What's wrong with "Tankvagn"?
k) Steel Coil Car - Ståltäckt vagn
Nope, it's a special car for steel coils, could be called "Specialvagn för Coils" - http://www.greencargo.com/templates/Ima ... spx?id=859

Told you my translations weren't good. I must, actually, agree with every single remake of AndersI, except maybe for the train tilt translation.

Korglutning is a word they use, but not sure about Lutningsbar. Tiltande tåg, that's how I'd explain the X2000 to a Swede, in Swedish

So, then, for the pulpwood car auf deutch, how about Faserholzwagen?

That's the usual German pattern, use familiar words strung together instead of new, as in Panzerkampfwagen, or Fliegerabwehrkanone, or Sonderkraftfahrzeug.

Yes, you´re right with the general "agglutination scheme" present in the German language, see e.g.: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=529748#p529748 8) .

Nevertheless, I´ve never heard the term "Faserholzwagen", and indeed there´s only one signle hit of it in google. And obviously it´s in a railroadtycoon forum. 8)

In technical terms, freight cars aren´t named after their cargo, but after their type of construction, i.e., "gedeckter Güterwagen" (literally "closed van"), or "Flachwagen" (literally "flat car"). Today, this is driven to the top by the UIC labeling of freight cars. There were o/c terms coined in the public like "Ölwagen" or "Kohlewagen", i.e. names derived from the cargo transported by these cars, very much like it was in TTD before general refitting was introduced by the makers of TTDPatch. But these were never the "official".

Except from this, "Faserholz" is a dubious term in itself, because in German, it´s not always clear if (same as in English) a product or its source material is meant (e.g., pulpwood != wood pulp). According to the glossary of "Zellstoff Rosenthal" (a German cellulose producer), every type of wood, used for production of pulp/cellulose or paper, may be called "Faserholz".

Nevertheless, it seems to be the correct technical term in the paper/pulp business, so how about

"Flachwagen mit Rungen (für Faserholztransport)" or
"Rungenwagen (für Faserholz)", etc. pp.

In any case, there should be a consistent naming scheme. And as Pikka already pointed out, he´d only need the cargo term because the flat cars would be refitted anyway, i.e. it all boils down to:

"Rungenwagen", refittable to "Faserholz".

BTW, I´ve added part of my collection of railway terms into a TTD Railway Dictionary, which should be helpful in future set design. Would be nice if other people would provide input there too.

regards
Michael
