Signalling and stations!

Hello everyone! I've been playing TT for years since I was kid and always loved it so when Open TTD came to attention I was massively excited!!

I had an older version of Open TTD (can't remember which one) and when I used the 'one way' signals by stations, as long as they had a crossover the station would effectively become Bi-Directional.
In the version I have now, I've used the same principle however it seems that the train will sit and wait in the previous signal section for the platform to become available.
This is quite frustrating because I have no idea how the other signals work in all honesty!

If anyone can help me out here that'd be awesome!

Try 'path' signals at the end of the platforms both ends,facing platformm, these allow trains to pass them in either direction but wil not allow a train to pass ( in the corect direction)if the train cannot get to the next signal safely.A train cannot pass from the back unless safe.ie. platform unocupied
Personally all I use are 'path' signals, for me KISS applies

I just tried that, though its still doing the same thing.. really baffled by this one!

Your platforms need inward-facing signals on both ends. They don't automatically have signals that let trains come into the station, they only prevent trains from leaving if the next block is occupied. In the current configuration your bottom train could leave any any moment and cross into the path of the train waiting at the signal. Without the signal block at the station, the train cannot determine if it is safe to cross.
