[OTTD] Dave W finally goes back to basics.

Post by Dave »

I'm bored of trying to create immense stories and screenshots and that... So I'm trying to get back to basics. Although I will still be posting with the usual panache haha.

Try this:

It's November 1831, and Heysham Power Station is going strong thanks to the input of the Mineral Railway Co., but the original single line yard is now grossly over-capacity. The Mineral Railway already has two lines to Heysham and Uttoxeter, and supply the power station using 2-2-0 Planets.

Forget all the things I said about realism... Ro-Ro Station at Heysham Power Station in early 1840. Don't get me wrong, RoRos exist, especially at Power Stations, but probably not like this. A six-track yard serves the busy Heysham Power Station.

Nice shots. Lets be fair, power stations didn't exist in 1840 either.

Why don't you just make it all maglev? They're so much faster Dave! Also - delete all trees. And make that bridge tubular.

New game, as ever.

The Parkhouse and Cirencester Railway was created in January 1854 by previously successful businessman Sir George N. Wilson, who signed a deal with Cirencester Colliery Co. to construct a railway and transport coal to a revolutionary new power facility at Parkhouse in the north.

Cirencester District Council requested that the line facilitated a passenger service between the two towns. The P&CR board, however, decided that the formation was unsuitable for a line between the two towns, which were both sited to the east of the current running line.

Thus they built the Cirencester-Parkhouse Main Line, and started services early in 1856. A single line connected the two. A short branch was then constructed to Altrincham late in 1856, and a chord was added between Forest Hill Junction towards Cirencester. You can see most of the works here, in this shot in early August 1857.

0-6-0 No. 202 sits at the head of a train being loaded at Cirencester Colliery, whilst sister 0-6-0 No. 201 is traversing Cirencester Yard Junction. The newly built Altrincham Branch is to the south.

0-4-0 No. 104 is spare in Cirencester Yard. Classmate No. 101 crosses Cirencester North Junction towards Parkhouse, whilst No. 103 waits for the cleared signal to head west towards Forest Hill Junction, and on to Altrincham. A pair of horse drawn trams serve Cirencester's upper class suburbs and the passenger station.

Good to see you're at least trying to get back to basics! I've always long sought to emulate DanMacK and his really, REALLY quaint scenes, but I've never been able to. I like that you're at least trying a new style!

Very quaint - the railway looks realistically mid Victorian. Expect the drivers are all drunk and the signalling has just been passed safe by some old Captain from the Board of Trade. I like the horse tramcars - it's a shame OTTD doesn't allow for non-electrified tramways.

As long as there are no electric trains or trams, but just horse-drawn/steam trams:

And if there are, just download Paul C's Remove Tramway Cantenary NewGRF before any other tram NewGRFs, and off they disappear!
