North America scenario

Post by andersengas »

Here is my North American scenario for you...
It includes northern Mexico, USA and southern Canada.
I haven't made it a challenge since the map itself
is kinda a beta version still..
Please gimme some feedback on the layout.

I have one problem with the map though:
It starts in 1900, but I really would like it
to start in 1950 or something, how do I
change that after the map is made?

I didn't know how to upload to this site,
so you have to download it from my website:

and here are some screenshots:

To change the date, just go back into the scenario editor, and choose 'load landscape', then go up a level to the main game folder and load in the 1900 version of your map. Then you can tweak it with the tools.

To upload to this site, push the 'add attachment' button, push the browse button and select the file from your hard drive, then push 'add attachment' to upload it to the site, then push 'submit' to make your post.

care for a little critisizim?

ok, now that you have gotten the idea of map making down. it would be a good idea to concentrate on a smaller region. due to the small size of maps in lomo. you might want to try just doing one state or providence and see how that goes.

i think personally we would all love to drive from cali to NY in lomo. but, when your train is 6 states long or you airport is 2 states big, it looses appeal.

so..thats said.. just keep it it small and simple and i bet you can make something completely awsome.

keep up the work!

PS. i saw you just joined. welcome to the forums.

yes, but...

Yes, its unrealistic when the trains are 6 states long,
but that's not the only thing that's unrealistic is it?
1) How small do you reckon I have to have it before it is remotely realistic in size?
2) The absurd difference in size between a oil tanker and a train is
still there anyway.
3) Why the h*** don't the passengers care about where they're going??
That has got to be the weirdest thing about the game... "Nah, just drop me off anywhere, I don't care"...

I reckon the map is maybe three miles or so across, given it takes a train going 120mph just about 90 seconds to get across the entire map.

This makes Locomotion hopeless for doing, say a scale representation of the St Albans Abbey Flyer (an electrified single-line branch from Watford, 6.5 miles long) .

It would, however, barely contain the Coryton Branch in Cardiff (again, a single-line branch from Heath Junction, 2.5 miles) .

As it stands, I think the game is only really capable of modelling urban transport, as even a standard interurban railway has larger distances between stations than 3 miles! This is even before we consider the fact the trains are at least the twice the size they should be compared to everything else (remember the Donald Duck cartoon where he hates Chip n' Dale until he realizes they're perfectly to scale with his model railway?)
