I don't know a lot about NFO just bits I pick up what Quast65 taught me .. he did all the hard work of the codes and just showed me what bits need to be changed for each new graphic.

Even NML I still not understand all of it .. almost all my coding I used from someone else project with same size item I want to make. Basically all I did was changed the reference to the name of graphics file.

See if I can work on some ides over the weekend.

Cheers pal

Shows how good my memory is these days.

I forgot I started a car park set to go with my Stations and it not yet finished.

I think my car parks can be improved as too much concrete paths as when look at car parks in real not many are designed drivers the car uses to walk to the shops.

Your lot you was able to fit 5 cars wide where mine has only 4 wide.

This image shows what I done previous.
The Car Parks on stilts is from my object sets. I designed these with overlaps so can go over top of roads and railways.

Kamnet pointed out to be some time ago, these are a bit high, the parking lot should only be 8 tiles high. It went on my To-Do-List and it still on that list.

The car parks shown at ground level are from one of my Statin sets and are cargo aware tiles. They are hiding a underground station. These are not finished as like to add more to them.

Mixing your idea with what I done I think something much better can be made.
This image is a car park where I shop shopping.

Wondering if I can change things a bit with what we both done and work on this idea.

Just made up a few car park sprites using your road surfaces and spaced them to 4 instead of 5 parking lots.

Could probably end up with something like this.

Some of the concrete sections at the ends might look nice if I plant some trees and grass there.

Before I do any more to this wait and see if you and others might have some ideas too.

Thanks pal,

They are giving me other ideas too ..

I'll make both Object and Railway Station sets from these once all the ideas from others come in.

Also thinking of the idea making Bus Parking Bays as Cargo Aware and also a Loading/unloading area for trucks also cargo aware.

Will look into those later n this evening or over the weekend if chance allows.

Fiddling with the Car Parks a bit more getting ideas how to make them look nice.

Been replacing most of the concrete with grass.

The end sections where the arrows point I have the 90 degree parking but like to make these different.

Have a few ideas:

1. Making it parallel parking.
2. Making them Bus Zones and/or Loading Zones.
3. Put lawns and walkways here.
4. Maybe gardens and shrubs

If you like any of these ideas or have a idea of your own let me know.

Good stuff again :)

I don't know how doable these things are in OTTD scale, but what you often see on/near parking lots in Germany is recycling containers. Like to throw away glass or give away old clothes.
Also, if it's related to shopping, maybe shopping carts?

Thinking about shopping - I'm not sure about this, but what if it were treated more like a little "scene"? Diarama-esque?

^ this is a literally a 1 minute copy&pasta job. But, you know, cars driving around, people walking around. They maybe could pile up shopping bags behind a car, or maybe there could be, I don't know. Some funny little gimmicks like deadlocked cars somewhere and both having on their emergency blinkers or whatever.

Interesting!

People walking around is already a good idea, makes the parkinglots feel a bit more "alive" then just parked cars (is also interesting for loading-stages in case they are used for cargo-aware station-tiles).

If you ever feel like fiddeling around with recycling-containers and/or other things, please do not hesitate to show/share them, as I am also going to impliment parkingspots in the Dutch Station Addition Set (animated via cargo-awareness) and completely empty parkinglots when all cargo is transported is a bit dull ;-) So extra eyecandy is always nice.

Adding some different things to the parking lots good idea so not so dull.

One of the reasons I added the grass (I stole the grass from the Golf Courses) instead of concrete for some colour.

I like the parking lot at one of the shopping Centres I go to as it gives ideas for things to add as well.

It has bays for 7 buses (1st bay is where I join my bus).

Those 2 red things near the building are recycle bins.

Like to make a variety of pieces for the parking lots so players can place them how they like and if they like can have cars parking different directions like in the first image.

The hard park in designing these is some countries drive and park on the wrong side of the road.

Here in Australia we drive and park left side. So should I just design for us who know which is the correct side to drive. :D ?

Here's what I really need:
1. Rail stations with parking lot-type structures for roofs.
2. Matching object tiles which will make a level surface when placed on a sloped surface next to the station.
3. Overlapping object tiles to cover gaps, tunnels, etc.

Your thinking along the same lines as me :D

At top of page the samples I show there are similar to what your looking for.
1. Rail stations with parking lot-type structures for roofs.
I started working on these several moons ago but only done them so far for underground stations. They also need pieces for above ground stations with ramps for vehicle access.

Problem I found the underground stations with car parks I did .. the pylons for the overheads sometimes stick through the top.
2. Matching object tiles which will make a level surface when placed on a sloped surface next to the station.
The object set I did to go over tracks with overlaps as you mentioned some time ago they was a bit high and wasn't level with the top of slopes.

I first made them high so Pylons and wires for Catenary would not stick through the top, especially at tile edges. I didn't know any other way about it and at that time I didn't know who to make stations. So I left it in the too-hard-basket.

But now I know a bit more about coding and how to make stations, hope to overcome this problem.
3. Overlapping object tiles to cover gaps, tunnels, etc
At tope of pages are 2 lots I done already. The car parks are overlaps (but as mentioned they too high in some respect),

And the grass.

Both these have a problem with Catenary and signals.

Quast65 has taught me how to remove the pylons from station platforms, this helped a lot.

But to cover gaps over railway lines at signals and Catenary pylons where no platform is, how do I stop them from poking through?

But then those of us who drive on the left side these will be designed wrong

The car Parks them selves not a problem if all are 90 degree parking.

Parallel parking will be the problem.

Exit and entry to car parks from main roads I just leave these with out arrows and marking and that way suit every one.

For now I going to use the car park at a shopping centre near me called Glendale. This is my first try.
Glendale Car Parks-7.png
Glendale Car Parks-7.png (18.89 KiB) Viewed 3277 times
The South West edge at the moment shows 90 degree parking. I think something better can go here. (Suggestions please)

The exit tiles on North East edge I replaced the 90 degree parking with the bus shelters.

Previous tiles for parking was like this:
OldParking-5.png
OldParking-5.png (4.48 KiB) Viewed 3277 times
But if I put the parking in the centre as shown on some single tiles in first image I think it will give a greater variety on how things can be done.

The half grass half parking on the north-west and south-east edges for instance, when I make them to go above stations, some can have stairs and lifts going down to the platforms below.

Also I think making them this way allows a good variety of eye candy to be added.

Cheers all

Where lucky in shopping centres parking is free. Some spaces are limited to just 2 hours and get fined if stay longer.

Parking along streets in some parts of Newcastle do have the parking meters and many multi-storey car parks have to pay a fee to park there.

parking meters
You could design entrance/exit-gates as a separate tile for large parkinglots.

In the Netherlands there are almost no old-fashioned parkingmeters left, like one for each parkingspot where you pay with cash.
They have been replaced by just a single parkingmeter in a street (or sometimes even just a single parkingmeter for a couple of streets, so if you are unlucky you have to walk a long way ;-) ) where you have to enter the numberplate of your car.
The old-fashioned metermaid has been replaced by a car that can scan numberplates and so check if you have paid.
There are also apps for your phone that you can use to pay, that way you dont have to search for the parkingmeter (on lampposts you can find the code you need for that street).
Dont know if this system is common in other countries, but its something I will keep in mind for Dutch style streetparking.

With regards to eyecandy around the parkinglots, in the Netherlands around shoppingcenters you can often find little caravans where you can buy Vietnamese eggrols (this was already way before those hipster foodtrucks appeared) or little flowershops, or little stalls where you can buy fish.
Also, mostly around this time of the year (christmastime/newyear) there are so called oliebollenkramen (just google oliebollenkraam and check out some pictures, welcome to Holland  ) where you can buy pastries.
Definitely also something I will keep in mind for Dutch style parking.

British variants could be fish&chips stalls or a small newsagents, for US maybe a hotdog stand.

Just venting some ideas here ;-)

In the US, of course, its all over the place. Shopping malls mostly own the parking around the building, so parking is free. Out on the street it's not uncommon to find free parking or parking meters, or like Quast65 mentioned, kiosks and mobile apps that manage parking for multiple spaces. Where I'm at, we have community owned parking lots with a central unmanned meter kiosk as well. And of course parking garages.

Yeah, it's similar here. There's all sorts of variations. And of course more lots these days have for example parking bays for electric cars. Or stuff like those bike-rental things.

But, let's face it, 98% of all parking lots are nonetheless basically just empty spaces of flat concrete that just aren't very interesting overall

I don't have to worry about parking meters as I no longer drive :D

Thanks all for the ideas.

The design for the car park at moment is based around a shopping centre, but I think I also need to make it so can be used around a industry.

I don't image many Industries have the car parks looking pretty.

I like Qust65 idea for entry and exits .. Make a set with gates so can charge people a parking fee and make extra money in their game:D

Around the green golf lawns see if can make a few little shops, kids play area, footpaths.

I will keep making the tiles and testing making sure they will align properly and hope soon to make a object set with them for proper testing. Once happy with what we have, see if can also make a Station Set and also a roof set.

Cheers all
