Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
Hi!
I have some re-drawn buses for Ikarus set (it just started to shade the current sprites and fix some graphical glitches), the new ones are more detailed and well shaded, but a bit larger than the current ones, and I'm worrying they won't fit in the OTTD scale so well.
Which should I use, the new or the old ones?

New, definitely. I'm thinking you could slightly shrink them.

I dont thing that slightly larger buses will be a problem, so long as they're not bigger then LRV vehicles you should be fine

Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
Oberhümer: I already tryed it, but they look off if I shrink them, and the sies are now set correctly to teach other just as in real life.
George: At the 2nd row I know the 200 serie facewall doesn't look as good as the old one, but it's because I used lighter colors on the new one to represent the lighting, and it have to be a "half pixel" taller than the old one. For the 400s (4-5-6th row) I don't know hy you like the old front so much, it's look a bit rounded in my eye. And the EAG (last one) I see you don't like the bright A pillar, but it's colored to yellow on most of the buses.
But your opinion is always appreciated, you have a lot more experience in drawing than me.
Anyone else: Thanks!

Very nice. Always gettin' better mate. They were already cool. Now they just got better. The first week of august i'll pass Szeged as I'm going to my Homecountry (Romania). Cant wait to see the busses which I'm playing with
... Thanks for your extraordinary work.

Some progress with trucks, along with new ones and FIRS cargo support.

Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
Shouldn't the trucks be coded to use cargo classes rather then the cargos them selves so that if one wants to use the trucks with different industry sets the trucks will still work with them.

Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
That indeed would be the correct approach. That way the vehicle set will automatically be compatible with all current and future industry sets.NekoMaster wrote:Shouldn't the trucks be coded to use cargo classes...
If you want special cargo graphics for loaded vehicles, then that can be done on the basis of a cargo translation table and specific cargo labels. I assume this is what colossal404 refers to in terms of "FIRS cargo support". Other industry sets will also be compatible, but with more generic cargo graphics.

Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
Yup, the default cargos + FIRS cargos will be fully supported and have proper graphics, others coded as cargo classes and having generic graphics.
Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
Why not proper graphics for other sets too? I smell discrimination.

Quite so.alluke wrote:Why not proper graphics for other sets too? I smell discrimination.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictiona ... rimination says
Which is quite what any NewGRF author must do and has every right to do when designing his set which he works upon. Go ahead and provide the missing graphics which YOU miss. You're free to spend your time on drawing support for *everything* indiscriminately whether you consider it necessary and need it or not1
a : the act of discriminating
b : the process by which two stimuli differing in some aspect are responded to differently
2
: the quality or power of finely distinguishing

Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
i m all excited by your announce Colossal !!
Your set is really great, it s definetly one of my "must have" in my games, but i have something to suggest :
- Top speed of the latest trucks with trailers are high(renault magnum, etc):
I bet it s to make them take curves faster (cause loaded they hardly go at top speed), and this is indeed a good thing. (and i canno t say 140 kmh is too fast for a road vehicule cause it is quite usefull on verybig map)
The bad thing is that a vehicule(non articulated) having a lower top speed but able to drive faster than one of those fast truck with trailers when loaded, simply canno t overtake it...
exemple : my bus go 120kmh max, the semitrailer truck 140kmh... unfortunately my truck is loaded so it will hit around 100kmh... my bus even though able to go at 120kmh won t be able to overtake it
....
i know i m being picky... but i was thinking maybe you could tweak things a bit :
- i mean increase max speed of those fast non articulated trucks (would also be needed for some non articulated bus in the Ikarus set),
- or lower max speed of those semitrailers (losing the faster curves speed but making your set more universal with other road sets, as not many road set propose vehicules going faster than your semitrailers trucks and so able to overtake them).
Hope you ll think about it or even better, find a solution to this

Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
The main reason of why i not support other cargo sets than FIRS is that FIRS is cover most of the cargos, so almost all of the ECS and PBI cargos have proper graphics, only a few of them have generic (box/tanker/grey bulk) graphic.
And as I see FIRS is the most used industry set after the original, so almost everyone will be happy with it I think.
I'd like to apologize to Pikka and George for not fully supporting their sets.
Romazoon:
I will change the stats of these, but it will be largely capacity lowering to allow all trucks to reach it's max speed.
Semitrailer trucks could go with that speed, but they can go with 90km/h in reality due to the tachograph, but I don't want to limit all of the trucks to 90km/h after cca 1990.
In Ikarus set the fastest buses can go with 140 too, and the max speed of the articulated ones is 112 (EAG E94G), so I think your request is already done. For the older ones, replace them with faster ones if you want them to go faster (the 254/270 combo is a good choice for loong routes).
Anyway, the construction material refit for Tatra 815:

Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
first of all , thanks for your fast reply

Nice, is powering up those trucks not a good alternative ? i m fine with both... but i was kind of liking their greater capacity (but i i can easily understand that with FIRS in mind, the greater capacity isnt as needed)...colossal404 wrote:Romazoon:

well... that s not really what i wanted anyway... so i m happy to hear this... 90kmh is way to slow for RVs using highways (ingame that is)... i m almost dreaming of a similar switch for RV as the plane has to increase or lower their speed....colossal404 wrote:Semitrailer trucks could go with that speed, but they can go with 90km/h in reality due to the tachograph, but I don't want to limit all of the trucks to 90km/h after cca 1990.
Welll your hitting my point here... if i have semitrailers able to reach 140kmh top speed, but let s say maybe only 130kmh fully loaded, then my ikarus Bus able to reach 140kmh will never ever overtake that "fast" trucks in front of him.... what about setting the speed of those semi trailers to 139kmh instead of 140, 119 instead of 120 and keep the 140/130/120 for the vehicules "able to overtake"(non articulated)colossal404 wrote:In Ikarus set the fastest buses can go with 140 too, and the max speed of the articulated ones is 112 (EAG E94G), so I think your request is already done. Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
Power values are now set to real, but the cargo capacity is almost double as the real, so I think the reasonable step is to lower the capacity.romazoon wrote:first of all , thanks for your fast reply

If both road vehicles can go with the same speed why would the single need to overtake the articulated?what about setting the speed of those semi trailers to 139kmh instead of 140, 119 instead of 120 and keep the 140/130/120 for the vehicules "able to overtake"(non articulated)
Thanks!you know how to make me even more excited ! nice gfx
Re: Hungarian Set / Colossal404's projects
colossal404 wrote:If both road vehicles can go with the same speed why would the single need to overtake the articulated?
cause a truck fully loaded is anyway slower than when not loaded.... and so when it s loaded there might be some Bus wanting to overtake it (especially after a curve when it s time to accelerate or on a slope).
about a single vehicules overtaking semitrailer, i had a feeling that single could drive faster(by law) than semitrailer (at least it was like this in my country some 5 or 10 years ago)... but this is almost off topic since your set don t propose much single vehicule going faster than 100...
and Cherry on the Top : it would be just looking nice and realistic that bus overtakes semitrailer on highways....
