Peninsurlar World
The idea of this scenario is to run long distance with long trains. If you restrict your selves to my rules its greate fun.
The goal is to provide each town with food and goods and set up a reliable passenger train transportation system. i do not make use of busses and aircraft, but this scenario is for fun so if you want to you can use what ever you want, that includes MOD's to.
The scenario is made with the original ObjectData, there are no competitors.
Only two restrictions that you have to keep is: Do not build bridges between the peninsulars. Dont tunnel the peninsulars. Lay your tracks at the coast lines.
Because you cant set all those things in the game i have added a preformance goal, achieve 95%.
I have played and are still playing this scenario with the US set, steam engines only, it took me 154 year and 8 month to have a preformance of 95%.
Lots of fun

Hmm... why does this map look familiar?
You might want to note this is the non-mod vesion...
anyways, i have been havin fun on this map. It is really is slowing down the 2.3 pack

What else do you need to play this scenario, do i need anything like sets or bridges or can i just do it without it. Or can i play it just by it self instaed off adding anything to it.

Re: Peninsurlar World
Finally having worked out how RobinH's sets work I have created some lovely stations for the scenario and they do look very well in the context of early 1900's heavyweight trains. Only grouch is that not many of the later US diesels seem to be above a top speed of 65 mph etc so the carriage stock is no where close to its maximum speed which when combined with Stockholm sets is causing a few interesting delaysPlastikman wrote:No mods at all.. add your owngavt1976 wrote:What else do you need to play this scenario, do i need anything like sets or bridges or can i just do it without it. I run US steam engines only, here you see the UP 4-12-2 with a ironore train at full speed when loaded, because its so heavy it ll never reach its top speed (set by me) of 101Km/h when its loaded. The nice part is that the steamplume stays visable.

Re: Peninsurlar World
I think the issue is the way you have the switches signaled. You should have a 1 way before them, and a 2 way coming out. that will help keep the train on track.klbond wrote:Just a test shot of my signals. Here are somemore shots.
I was able to play a little between jobs today. I built a Passenger and Freight Main lines today. I started this scenario by building local lines by the grain and cattle industries, and now that I have started to build main lines. This is when I started running into problems. I was getting some lost trains due to the fact that I did not want to build complex waypoints into each train. So I built a freight and passenger mainlines into my existing route. I only have the two lines crossing each other so far in 2 major intersections. THis way I do not have to give each train so many commands.

Yes, you have to be careful with the waypoints, especially if you add some tracks. But it's much fun indeed. I used DB stock for cargo and Amtrak for passenger services. Even those 6 kW engines had some trouble with these long freight trains, so I'm amazed you were able to run such long trains with steamers.
Here some pics, will post some more in the weekend.

Re: Peninsurlar World
Nice track layouts probably a bit too complicated for my tastes I prefer to try and use a grade separated layout for my cross overs where possible, a bit of confliction beats the costs of all the additional land working, track and signalling. When I started this I built single line with passing loops that gradually became double track single in a single direction of travel aspect. I am not sure that that you can use really long trains without huge loading times especially for the coal so I limited myself to about 900 tonne trains using double headed diesels with steam I settled for 400 tonne trains.Azetta wrote:Yes, you have to be careful with the waypoints, especially if you add some tracks. Can you get a reasonable loading time if you take the train up to 1,500 tonne or does that push the reliability to a point where breakdowns occur more frequently due to the increased waiting to load times?

Re: Peninsurlar World
I am finding it really difficult to get the towns to grow quickly. I am using the BR set with the map and starting it in 1965, I am currently in 1980. I currently have lines from the 3 groups of oil wells on the Deserty Peninsula to the refinery on the far right one and connected that up to the town nearby sending it goods, even though it is too small to accept them. On the middle one, I transport the 2 Grain Farms and 2 Cattle Farms to the Food Processor and send that to the town nearby, which is too small to accept the food. On the one second from left, I transport the lumber from the 3 forests to the paper mill. I have also linked up the towns on the middle and second from left peninsulas in a loop (looks like one up one down, but after each station, there is a loop which puts them onto the line going back in the direction they came from. For Oil transport, for the closest well, I have 2 Class 82s and 6 60 ton tankers, for the next furthest (on the other side of the peninsula), I have 2 82s and 8 60 ton tankers and for the furthest, I have 3 class 82s and 14 60 ton tankers. For grain, I have 2 sets of 1 class 82 and 8 32 ton hoppers and for livestock I have 2 sets of 1 82 and 10 32-cattle trucks. For lumber I have 3 sets of 1 82 and 6 flatbeds. For transporting the goods and food into town, I have 2 sets of 1 class 47 with 4 food/goods container flatbeds. On the passenger route, I have 2 sets of class 43s with 5 Mk3 TSOs and 4 sets of Class 421 4-CEPs. Other than waiting for a while, will anything increase the populations of the towns faster than is possible now?

you need to stimulate town growth. move passengers. either move them from town to town or buld trams/EL/subway system. give it a few years (3 or so) and watch it grow out of control. you can also help a little by extending the roads a lttle around town a bit, in many cases the town will start using your new road to expand.

I cheated by expanding the towns in the landscape editor first then put in the trams afterwards to generate income to fund the long railway linesPlastikman wrote:you need to stimulate town growth. move passengers. either move them from town to town or buld trams/EL/subway system. give it a few years (3 or so) and watch it grow out of control. you can also help a little by extending the roads a lttle around town a bit, in many cases the town will start using your new road to expand.

Re: Peninsurlar World
The game has been continuing on for 14 years and I have put tramlines down in the towns, yet none of them have got anything high-rise. I traded in all the 82s and 47s for the ONE Class 90s which someone wrote in as top speed 140mph. I also swapped the HSTs and 4CEPs for Wessex Electric 442s, however, only as a 2-car set (just the front and back carriages) because they are faster and cheaper than full 4-car sets, but I don't need all the room. I could get away with single ones a la 153, but it would look stupid.

Couple the class 90's to a rake of mark 4 carriages that way you should get the full 140 mph speed and as for the 442's junk them for 450's as they might not reach the 100 mph as i can't recall their exact top speed. I do know the Siemen's units do have serious problems with 750 volts dc supply due to their increased body weights and additional electrical systems over their predecessors
Edit:
The mark fours in the game cannot exceed 125mph and checking the 450's are 100mph capable as are the 444's

Re: Peninsurlar World
I am only in 1994, so 444s or 450s don't exist yet, I forgot to bring in Mk4 coaches, so there arent any past 125 (I have MK3) 442s do 100mph, the 4ceps only did 90 and ended up making the HSTs wait at signals. The 90s are good for acceleration as they are hugely powerful. The 2-Carriage 442s do 0 - 100 mph in about 2 seconds over 3 or 4 45 degree track pieces. They are so fast it is sick (they weigh barely anything and have a huge power - weight ratio (better than 2 HSTs without carriages)
