The saga continues!

I have now completed a big part of the work on getting replacement sounds, please look (and hear) here and tell me if you like it: https://github.com/OpenTTD/OpenSFX/pull/8

I also got permission from 2 editors to use their edits, this will save a lot of work for me. The remaining sounds can easily be redone (in fact, I already started). And after that, it will probably just be some cleanup work.

I have news again. So, recently an important PR was accepted that has replaced all sounds with libre sounds now.
Meaning, all sounds IN THE DEVELOPER VERSION of OpenSFX are libre now! :) But we don't have a public release yet.

OpenSFX still needs some cleanup work, namely, updating the README and license and info files. So technically, OpenSFX is still not libre until this crucial step has been done. But we're close.
Also the scripting needs a desperate rework, esp. for building.
And finally, if all of that is done there needs to be a new public release, otherwise all the work was for nothing. :D

I have done most of this work, and I got help by glx22 for automatic build helpers.

These PRs are waiting for review right now:
https://github.com/OpenTTD/OpenSFX/pull/14
https://github.com/OpenTTD/OpenSFX/pull/19

If you want to review this stuff, please go ahead, thanks. :)

BTW: I still can't believe OpenTTD got away with non-free sounds for over 10 years now, lol. :p

A libre OpenSFX is within reach …

Post by Wuzzy »

The neccessary cleanup work about licensing and README files was completed as well. The repository is now officially libre, the only thing that's missing is a proper release. And, ideally, some translations.
We are getting pretty close to a release.

If you want to test the latest bleeding-edge build for testing, check it out here:

(Note: The link above is NOT YET the official release, it is just for testing for now!)
