I can't find the upgrade button in game or in the load game screen, am I doing something wrong?Leanden wrote:Ah you are upgradin in the main menu, that will only affect new games.
Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
No, you're not doing anything wrong, because the ability to update NewGRFs in an active game or save game is explicitly disabled by default, because doing so can cause your game to become unstable. You can override this by changing settings via the console or editing the game config files, but once you do so your warranties are void and you get a big red warning box reminding you of that. The Growl wrote:I can't find the upgrade button in game or in the load game screen, am I doing something wrong?Leanden wrote:Ah you are upgrading in the main menu, that will only affect new games.

Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
The development you are doing is very interesting and I do like the fact that it appears to be at game scale. UKRS2 is fantastic but the slightly smaller scale irked me. I discovered http://www.richardwheeler.net/interacti ... ltool.html so I gave a little project a shot. I attempted to create the front carriage of a SWT Class 444. I also worked on the 3 mid carriages but I need to modify them to match this one. So before I go to far I wanted to seek your feedback on whether this is worthy of inclusion and any general feedback really.

Just two things:
1) please put that code in a spoiler tag
2) the livery looks good, just put some white lights on the front.
Is it 32px in the horizontal view?
Id be happy to include this for sure, but it would need some work on it
EDIT: Actually something is off with the connection on the / view and the whole thing looks too squared off, needs to be rounder.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback! Keep up the good work.
No problem, on both of those.Leanden wrote:Just two things:

It should be, the bounding box is set to 32 so the train is 32px except there is a 3px slope on the cabs. Also the connectors on either end take 2px so the actual carriage is 30px.Is it 32px in the horizontal view?
Totally understand, this is my first ever drawing so I'll keep learning! I'll look into the rounding, I found it challenge with only so many pixels. I attempted to show the roof rounding through shading but I can see it didn't quite work. As for the connections, I think this is a limitation of tool I am using. I only draw the orthagonals and the program draws the diagonals.Id be happy to include this for sure, but it would need some work on it

Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
I do have multiple save games, so this shouldn't matter so much. How can I do this?kamnet wrote:No, you're not doing anything wrong, because the ability to update NewGRFs in an active game or save game is explicitly disabled by default, because doing so can cause your game to become unstable. Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
Don't be disheartened however, I will include this train in its current form (although i'll adjust the corridors manually), but as you update the sprites to better round off the shape then I can easily update them in the GRF.le_harv wrote:Thanks, appreciate the feedback! Keep up the good work.
EDIT: I just remembered that we already have a 444 drawn although yours is far and away better than the one we already have

I had to make a fair few adjustments to your 444 though, all of the sprites were the wrong size. | views are 8x24 px, / views should be 21x18 px and _ view should be 32x12px.

Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
"Someone" should improve the gronk - no need to draw the cab 1px higher than the bonnet, at TTD angles you wouldn't see that part of the cab.
Not suggesting you should do this yourself Leanden

You mean the class 08? Meh i'm not going to mess with graphics just yet
But if anyone wants to fiddle around i've attached the sheet.

Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
v0.1.4 now available on Bananas.
Feature: BR444 'Desiro'
Feature: BR395 'Javelin'
Quite happy with the 395 as this is coded as a dual power train, but will only reach 100mph on third rail while on catenary it'll do its full speed

Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
If anyone is thinking to fix the gronk (class 08 / 09 / 13), compare the roofline to the Chinook (class 20) from Iron Horse
I would make it shorter as well, which will make it chibi, but also give it a stronger-looking stance
If it helps, the tractor could use some love too, compare with this Iron Horse loco that is a tractor crossed with a deltic (i.e. it's fake, but eh, at this scale the shape is close enough)

Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - A British Railways Set in NML
I agree - 08s should look quite stout, even compared to naturally chibi TT locomotives as a whole. 08s sitting in yards were one of the first locomotives to catch my eye when i moved to the UK in the 90s as they stood out looking almost like cubes!
Re: [OTTD] BRTrains - Development Thread
v0.1.5 released
Feature: BR Class 373 'Eurostar'
I revisited the first train i ever drew as a pixel artist, (to be honest my first efforts were apalling), but i'm actually really happy with this one!
