4K or 8K UK Scenario

Post by speedypete202 »

Hi

I have tried searching for ages but cannot find a large map 4096 or 8192 UK scenario anywhere.

Does one exist?

Thanks in advance

Not as far as I know. OpenTTD only recently supported map sizes larger than 4096^2.

I thought that might be the case.

Would there be much interest if I was to create a larger UK map? Probably a 4k one as I did get half way through making an 8k one and upon saving i got the "run out of memory" message which corrupted the file.

Apparently I was mistaken. There is a UK 4096x4096 scenario posted on BaNaNaS. No information about it, no idea who uploaded it.

maybe there is no information because this is an "heightmap" and not a scenario...

Its not quite as easy as just uploading it, there are lots of GRFs embedded into the scenario, so stripping out all the objects and such to make it uploadable is a long old task.

why don t you upload a version with the newgrf then ? of course i understand you have to take away some that would be "homemade" and/or "unrealeased" newgrf, but beside that it s quite not advised to take away newgrf.

two reason for this :

- taking out newgrf from an existing scenario IS wrong. (expect bug sooner or later)
- taking out newgrf from an existing scenario IS wrong. (bug bug bug)

Ok i m not fancying looking for another reason, but there is plenty, like at least to not spread "another" scenario wich have its gamelog messed up from the start, giving scenario "ready to play" is cool (setting up a nice grf list can take so long), scenario develloper setting is set to OFF by default (people can t add newgrf), etc..

now, beside that, i m just curious how you have done that map ? 4k x 4k is simpy not even "thinkable" to do manually...so I was left under the impression that you have used the "automated realistic scenario" patch lying aroung the forum.
if yes, would it not be simply more easy for you to generate the scenario again (with no newgrf ) ?
if not, haven t you tried that already and how far have you been ? (any city list as "text file" for generating the scenario left in your computer ? if yes share it please, i might give a try myself as soon as i find a bit of time for that (not before the 10th of january) ).
