[OTTD] UK Town Names - v1.0 [11/01/2014]

So, I was playing around generating random maps in OTTD earlier this evening - using the British Town Names GRF. I was getting frustrated as it seemed to struggle to generate any more than 800 names, so I decided to make a slightly extended version. This has some 13,700+ names, so should hopefully cover all the bases.

It is uploaded to BaNaNaS (UK Town Names) and thus available ingame or you can download it from this post.

In the future I think I want to try and give a higher priority to the names of cities and bigger towns, but works quite well as is currently.

Well, like I said above, British Town Names can't generate more than 800 town names or so, compared to over 13,000 in this GRF.

As for More British Town Names, I wasn't even aware it existed.

I assume technically speaking, British wouldn't include names of cities/towns etc in the Republic of Ireland.

You do realise the Republic of Ireland seperated in the early 1921 I presume you meant Northern Ireland

Did I do something wrong? Is this working for everybody else?

By default it seems every odd town is called Lewis<Something>, who is Lewis, a developer?

It's just luck. The names are randomly generated based on an algorithm. I just ran it on a 1024*2 map w/ hundreds of towns. I got for instances of "Lewis" and 12 of "Bree".

It's not just that you have to download the town name set, you also have to activate it in the game settings.
