Water Based Industries and Passengers
Hello all,
I am working on a water-based industry (same like oil-rig, but with different cargo's).
I would like to know if the Passenger cargo is standard with those industries, because of the ship/helicopter-station?
Or is there a way to disable passengers as cargo for waterbased industries?
Cheers!

Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
I think by default, they don't accept passengers.
What kind of industries are you thinking of btw?
What kind of industries are you thinking of btw?
Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
Well, I think that they may do that, take a look at this: In the industrychains of the Oil-rig and the Dredging site, there is no acceptance of Passengers mentioned, also not in the orange/pink-menu you get when you click on the industry.
But, when you click on the ship/helicopter tile, you get the grey menu, showing acceptance of Passengers…

What I would like to be sure of, is if this is a feature of the ship/helicopter-tile and that the acceptance of passengers cannot be removed from those.
And if it is possible, where to find the information about that.
It's way too much still W.I.P.What kind of industries are you thinking of btw?
Something like the dredging-site but with different cargo's.
Too early to go into details

Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
I think you may freely define cargo acceptence/delivery for water-based industries. Only problem could be that you'd need a special docking tile.
In TTDpatch times I released a water-based industry (fishing grounds) which didn't need such a docking tile since TTDpatch had 'dockable buoys'.
Here's an old thread discussing that topic:

Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
I can't speak to how passenger acceptance is changed on water-based industries, but in industry sets where passengers are accepted or produced by passengers, there is an important UI reason to only show passengers as supplied by an industry even if the industry tiles themselves accept passengers. If they were shown as both accepted and produced, each industry would appear in each others' industry chain schematic both producing and receiving passengers, making this feature unusably cluttered. I talked about this in a post-mortem video about my Improved Town Industries set, in which most industries accept and produce passengers as workers.
Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
I know and that is working in my case, but its that docking-tile I am talking about.michael blunck wrote: 10 Feb 2021 15:32 I think you may freely define cargo acceptence/delivery for water-based industries. Only problem could be that you'd need a special docking tile.
That accepts Passengers, even though the acceptance of passengers is not defined in the acceptence/delivery of the industry.
The two FIRS industries I had shown do not have the acceptance of passengers in their code.
I also checked the FIRS fishingground: And even that docking-tile accepts Passengers, but that is not in the code of the Fishing-ground.
So, is this an OpenTTD-feature for the Docking-tile?
I understand, but in this case I dont think the acceptance of Passengers is defined by the industry.2TallTyler wrote: 10 Feb 2021 15:38 important UI reason to only show passengers as supplied by an industry even if the industry tiles themselves accept passengers. It looks like its a feature of the docking-tile and I would like to be sure of that

Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
Well, you don't technically need a docking tile on a water industry, but it is pretty handy to have, especially far away from shoremichael blunck wrote: 10 Feb 2021 15:32 I think you may freely define cargo acceptence/delivery for water-based industries. Sadly this does seem to be a hard-coded feature, I ran into the same issue in Wasteland and just accepted it as a feature

Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
I think you do... Otherwise you cant send any ships (or helicopters for that matter) to pick up (or bring) any cargo's.Andrew350 wrote: 10 Feb 2021 16:19 Well, you don't technically need a docking tile on a water industry, but it is pretty handy to have, especially far away from shore
Without a docking-tile I was not able to get the industry into the goto-list of a ship.
Do you have a different experience?
Allright, good to know.Sadly this does seem to be a hard-coded feature, I ran into the same issue in Wasteland and just accepted it as a featureNot sure if it's something which could be easily changed (probably not), but might be worth asking about on GitHub where the devs look. It also may have already been asked for in the past, so might be worth looking up old tickets to find an answer
That means I dont have to search any further for now

Yes, I'm quite sure that the current situation is the same as discussed in the above mentioned thread, from 12 years ago.

Ok, then it is sure that there is no fix.michael blunck wrote: 10 Feb 2021 17:09 Yes, I'm quite sure that the current situation is the same as discussed in the above mentioned thread, from 12 years ago.
No worries, can live with that, just dont send passengers

At least it doesnt show up in the cargo-chains.
Thnx guys for answering, saves me a lot of frustrating searches

Re: Water Based Industries and Passengers
I meant that mostly as a joke, as in you can always fill in the ocean nearby and build your own station to deliver cargo to such an industry. It's just not very sensible to do thatQuast65 wrote: 10 Feb 2021 16:35 Without a docking-tile I was not able to get the industry into the goto-list of a ship.

Haha, yes that would indeed work!Andrew350 wrote: 10 Feb 2021 18:03I meant that mostly as a joke, as in you can always fill in the ocean nearby and build your own station to deliver cargo to such an industry.
