[In Dev]South Australian Pack

Post by damo566 »

Hi.
I've been looking over vehicle creation a bit, but as far as I can tell, I don't have the tools do to it; most critically, 3dsmax. If I was able to get it I would've started work on a pack I've been wanting for a while - TransAdelaide. That is, the trains and content generally around the Adelaide/SA area. It would have compromised signals, rolling stock, and buildings as well as trains. Of course, not being able to do it is annoying, but I can ask anyone who is interested. I have collated a bunch of info on the trains in question.

Edit: This topic has become people helping me with my first pack...

Here are the trains I would like to see:
Locomotives
2000, 2100 'Jumbo', 3000, 3100, 300 and 400 'Red Hen' class railcars - Adelaide Metro and South Aus State Livery
AN GM class
AN Guard Van
An 830 class
SAR Centenary Car
SAR 520 ARHS 'Whispering Giant' Loco & Tender
SAR 930 class
SAR 930 Single
SAR/Spoornet class 34 EMD

Trams
Flexity Classic - AM Livery
H Class
Citadis 403 - AM Livery

Now I have collected a lot of data for these trains - I've done my homework ^^ And so if someone is interested and has the right tools, PM me.
Also, I would like to know where to get a free 3dsmax that I can use for this project, if I can get one at all.
Thanks.
These 2100's will be gone be 2018 - let us save them now.

VICSIG

Also, can we add these to the list?
And damo, blender or even googlesketchup (convert to blender to get png's); can be used to create models for locomotion.
So if you ever find yourself bored, have a fiddle with them, and one day you might even make a pack or two.

Okay, cool. I've played with Blender before but I don't know how to do anything useful such as colour in. I'll have a look at Sketchup and see if I can work it out..
What locos would you like? There's a lot of work in that site ...

Not only are there trains, but also trams, however I wont beable to start helping right now, as ive got two other projects in the works, and sadly not lomo related.

Okay, thanks. I'll be needing some help.
Here is a sketch of my first play with.. well, Sketch:
2000.png
2000guide.png
How do they look compared to the picture in post #1? My driver's window is wonky but eh. I wonder if anyone knows the dimensions of the actual train - All I have to work with is the gauge size.
Thanks to school, I have experience in Autodesk Inventor, so that help a bit here, but a question: What tools are there for the 2d sketch? I would like to curve all the edges ('fillet' in inventor) so what command is it?

I feel I'll be asking a lot of questions later on...

Er you are asking for a train, then you gonna make it yourself, now we need to find the details of the trains you requested? My head hurts. What is exactly the thing you want to do? Because i got the feeling you dont know what you are doing :P

Looks good, but dont make it too detailed if only for locomotion.

People can see in, as in the Prauge Metro pack. You can see in well enough to know if there's anything inside or not.

Now I've a few more questions: Firstly, I can't see myself shooting all the pictures from in sketchup. I know someone mentioned about exporting it to Blender, but I don't know how to use Blender despite many attempts. Will I need to colour it in Sketchup or just export it as is? And what do I export it to? :/
Last thing is what I'd need to do to in Blender. I assume whatshisface from above will know what to do then... :P

1. Your going to have too google "Converting .sketch to .blend"; there you will find the way to do it.

As for getting the images, its just a matter of trial and error; first you have to set the camera up pointing at an angle (I think its 45, not too sure, the ans was re-given to me here; search for "Image angles";

When you convert to blander, you wont need to do much, just have the camera setup right, and make sure the setting are capturing X images from all the required angles.

This site will give you some very nice tips; and even show you how to create a basic model, then go on from there.

Update: The 2000 is done :D

@Blander (:P):
I'f it's simply a matter of positioning the cameras, I can do that in sketch alone because it can take .pngs. Is there a script in blender or something?
I know there is help for 3dsmax. Long story short, I once had a free demo of it, but it's gone... so to ask a question somewhere above, where can I get a free 3dsmax? I had a look on Autodesk's site but that one is a 30 day trial and I doubt that's long enough for what I want to do.

I hate to say it, You are not "Done". you have only started.

Besides some of the obvious flaws like the front windows all wrong. you missing some obvious body details. Also, don't forget the Anti-Climber pilot and all the undercarriage electrical, motors on the powercar, the "Jumbo" cockpit, The roof crap on the power car, etc.

you have just started, now comes the fun part where you super detail it. Right now it will just looks like a block in game.

Also, by just cutting holes in the side for windows , it might come out pretty bad when you go to render it. especially when the inside floor and walls match the outside color. you should just fill them in with tinted windows.

PS your interior looks like a Winnebago or mobile home. not a train :P you need a kitchen and TV now.

you have a couch blocking a door. fire hazard.

Take a look at prague metro and you'll see that the positions of the interior means nothing. You only need to have something in there and it works.
This isn't a powercar, it's a trailer. Also isn't a driving (Cab'd) trailer. Therefore I needn't worry about the roof. And, I want to put moving bogies underneath so I need to know where they appear in game before I can add the thing between.
I will get on the details and stuff you speak of after I know how to get it to work. I find no point in continuing unless I make sure I can actually use the models...
How are the front windows wrong? The only fault I find is that it's flipped LR..
I'll get on the windows as soon as I find a transparent texture.

He was partly joking with you; whats missing is the under belly (Bogey wheels)

As for the windows, now you just need to refill in the windows, then add the glass effect to give it the nicer look.

There is/was a script, If I didnt lose the internet due to being an cross country trucker; I could of given you the scripts I used in blender to create the pngs (But its pointless in saying it now)

As you're probably aware, you'll eventually have to limit the colors to those available on the Loco palette. That pretty much rules out a generic transparent texture you may find that was intended to work for regular (high bit) png pictures.

This link http://wiki.locomotiondepot.net/index.p ... te_Palette on the WIKI has a breakdown of the color useage (assignments), and also a grid map of the colors. Only certain ones can be used for transparency and it's not clear to me whether semi-transparency is even available at all.

Obviously, the background blue (#255) is fully transparent, but it's only intended for the background. Color #0 (dark pink) is the fully transparent color intended for the object itself. The only other one documented is #47 called "glass mask color", but there's a comment that states it's only been seen to work on stations so far.
