(W.I.P.) Northeast Corridor

Post by bluebeetle »

Okay we all know that a few northeast Corridor maps have been released mostly from grayscale maps, to me they failed to bring the experience of the Corridor. Basically i would love to do from NYC to D.C., with the important stops between them. the problem is if i use a grayscale map i am screwing myself when it comes to space. but if i make the map by hand with the idea i drew out on the attachment. remember this is a idea i am throwing right now. i still have to gather up a bunch of photo's and stuff, and fiqure out how i am gonna extend the distance between D.C. and NYC. on the image below the black line in the middle is the map divider.

If you do it pen-world style, you might buy enough room. the cities will be undersized..... I strongly suggest you cut the milage... maybe Start at NYC and go south? We are missing a lot of equipment north of NYC anyways.

Stick to the PRR/PC mains?

thinking of going south to D.C., which is all electrified. No reason to go north to boston.

NYC - through jersey - through deleware - then D.C.

I would suggest warping it Pin world style, or, use two maps, and a cool system of warehouses to simulate the next map and so on (text in dark green is known to have escaped from the inner workings of my mind)

yeah, i know my NE/PRR stuff

pretty sure this map main goal be passengers, so many people have been wanting that. One thing i have to be careful with is that not to put too many town on the map where they grow so fast and it will look one massive city across the map. Gonna need space between the towns to avoid this.

General freight was the main freight on the main line, i think followed by coal for power plants.

this map will take a while, and A LOT of research. first i need to gather up a lot of pictures like i did for TEH and go from there.

plastik: i like that layout, and including harrisburg is a good idea.

obviously there is dead space on my map... you can us that creativly like a model railroad style
"island" for industries/mines or to extend a mainline by s-bending into it... sort of like "squaremap"..

passenger would be good. especially for amtrak era. run those Juice machines.. coal could be king for a version if you can figgure that out.

for that section you could do 1920-now and have issues finding a way to do only 225 items...

one thing this map needs is plenty of space to make massive yards, and some more yard eye-candy (coughcoalingtowers/loaderscough), I would recommend making two versions, one with only pass stuff (this one would need my favorite loco, you know the one plastik), one with only freight stuff, the freight one could have warehouses and coal depots (more mods hehe) to allow heavy mainline traffic and not much undue waste on making the goods, just moving them.

from NYC to philly is almost a water level route, hence why it is prefect for what it does. Philly to harrisburg is a little climb.

images of prr and pc freight dance through my head :D

The boundary markers? Yeah, those would work, but you'd need to place them so the traintracks could enter the city, and that can run into many restricting problems as I learnt.

Also, how will the goods on the map be generated? From chemical or lumber?

new york to phila is easy i have made a few versions (before my laptop died). i could convert the pen-world map into boston to wash dc fairly easy (i did it before for myself).

i am off work for the next 6 days if theres interest i will hammer out a nyc to phila map that will have all the station stops used by the nec trains, ie prr, njt, amtrash, ect

the map will be a u shape with a added part on the top nyc and phila will be on the ends the middle will contain the b&o/reading route to phila via plainfield and west trenton, if theres enough space i will also add the north jersey coast line and the bordentown sub to camden

industries would be chem plants and refineries in the port newark and bayonne areas, factories in newark and phila, farms beteween new brunswick and trenton and along the bordentown sub, a auto plant in princeton, and auto parts in phila, coal and iorn ore would be on the b&o route, and steel mills in newark.

that should give people plenty of things to do on the map

I am sure they will both be so different it wont matter.

I would welcome both maps with open arms. I have a desire to run PRR, NYC (not that we have any) NJT, Conrail, PC stuff and Highspeed Amtrak.

Are you guys going to use the date patcher mod that Plastikgeek put in the Pen map? that was a cool idea for how the PRR became PC then CSX. I had modded the INI Plastik used to change the names so at certain dates the same unit changed paint. AKA. the PRR GP9 once it expired, the DAT name was recycled to Norfolk Southern with a new start date. it took a while to change the ini, but it gave me more units without editing the map.

I did not know Busman made any maps before, where can I download them?

Other maps I would love to see of this area would be the NYC water level, Bridge Line with B&O or Chessie, or something C&O. I love the paint jobs of C&O/B&O.

Public has spoken, but i am gonna work with plastik on this, i know he has been wanting to make a NEC map for a long time. And when he is my editor that maps are outstanding :D

I love plastik's idea for the layout of the route and gonna run with that :D
