The history of the line north of Sunbury can be traced back to as early as the 1830's. This small railroad, known as the Sunbury and Erie Railroad, quickly faced with the same trials and tribulations as many other railroads being born in the early 19th century. It's completion was delayed until it received financial backing from the Pennsylvania Railroad, and was constructed as the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad only to later become part of the emerging giant's system.
Seeking a competitive route to move traffic to and from the growing industrial area around Buffalo, the PRR gained control of yet another small railroad of the region, known as the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad. South of Sunbury, the line was constructed northward from near Harrisburg as an extension of the Northern Central's route out of Baltimore, and it too eventually came under control of the Pennsy.

i made the map to go from harrisburg to scranton, the area around harrisburg is kinda weird, look at the grayscale of the area fro example. so i somewhat made the map to reflect it, but still very playable for loco. there was A LOT of branchlines by sunbury going to mines, and i did the same thing on this map. so on this map you have to move so much coal during a certain time. the first PPR to Conrail mod you will be going through prr and pen central days using their engines and cars. i hope you like playing with sharks, be plenty of prr sharks to choose from. the second mod is conrail through NS days, the later owners of the route, same challenge different engines and rolling stock.
I also included passenger equipement and electric trains, though PRR only electricified to harrisburg you could change history and do it all the way to scranton.
the area around harrisburg is somewhat flat, but pass sunbury and you climb up to scranton.
