Farmland Area Car Set mods

Post by legs4poets »

I broke the rar file down into smaller files. It seems that this way any fixes won't require a complete reload of a large file and would solve the space and bandwidth issues.

Please no posting here this topic will be reserved for the files only

Hmmm..? I just downloaded the f7 set to pass some time while waiting for mytrain... yeay amrtrak and being 2 hours late!

I thought it would be great to see some new US units... well..
~pause~
So yeah something is deffinatly off...

I don't want to sound like an a$$.. so lets fix your set... it is nice beta but not done just yet...

You definatly have the F7's overrated for HP.. possibly to much top speed for frieght (but then again, the top speed on the rolling stock will slow down Your train). I did not look at the price... but then is the next problem, you have F7P's F7's, F3's(?) and E units mixed in and called F7's. also all are a bit long for both existing sets and the default lomo trains (easy to fix i'll let you know what my setting was for length) especially the E units.

Ok next problem... The stupid AI only bought B units.... I know stupid. lower the HP on the B-unit a little bit and jack the price up a few bucks. It's stupid and unrealistic since a B-unit is supposed to be cheaper, but that fixes the problem....

They dont seem to be as sharp in detail as they could be, Some looked a little off in color and the pinstripes being jagged, this might be a pallet issue and beyond Your control unless you repaint the msts model or go HQ. sometimes shifting the loco on the track by +/- in msts2lomo will fix bugged pinstripes/railings.

Hrrmm I forgot where i was, my train pulled in. Also those units look a lot like Dick Cowen's and Rick Lamp's models, you might want to give them some credit...

OOOH yeah.. also it would be great if you gave it your own prefix in the menu like L4P instead of US so it wont mix into the middle of My sets (just a personal favor i ask please). Maybe I should not of hogged US... but it was available at the time ...

anyways.. glad to see new US stuff it looks like a great start, just a little more sweat and it might be great...

Plastik...

PS. I definatly made a lot of of mistakes myself, so time to pass on my knowlege and mistakes...

The F units are accually a generic F7 from MSTS Paint with a lot of work done on them. Yes I am familiar Cowen and Lamp work. The other cab units (incuding b units) are from a buddy who use to work with me. I just reskinned / painted them. I've been playing MSTS for nearly 3 yrs now. I got into making stock and reskining using actual photo's. Later today or tomarrow (when I find them) I'll show off (ha ha) my first few attempts. They're a fantasy road based loosely on the LS&BC aka Let's Steal Box Cars in La Salle County ILL (where I'm from). I had a HO scale train set which I can only remember know (lost in a fire) but always liked the color scheme I used.

Anyways thanks for the tips, I look into them later.

I always wanted to try out paintshed never thought it worth the money since i just use photoshop / PSP. I guess I drawn to CNW and ICG Myself since I am from chicago myself. Most people like to play with trains (Model or Digital) from their childhood.

sorry i am sitting on the train bored trolling forums all over today. I should be pulling into union station in an hour ... ~sings sweet home chicago!!~

PS.. dont tell the engineer i just made a huge pile-up in union station in lomo just now... oops.. 1 only killed about 300 digital life forms and 1200 tons of coal lost.. stupid me editing signals in a live station.....

I've tried to avoid using and of Cowen's or Lamp's work as I noticed from your sets you had that well covered. As you can see from above pic the detail in the models at MSTS level are different and when run thru MSTS2Loco they sort of blend together and at times quality improves and at other times it degrades.
I like he color scheme and had been going thru every type of motive power and painting to that line... but that was a while ago and not sure which hard-drive has them. When I do find them I'll post the pics and perhaps even convert them to loco if someone would like them.
Most of the motive power units I have are US/Canadian types but a few acrross the pond were used by me in MSTS
I wish I could covert some of my buildings to loco but most were too big and wouldn't convert the whole thing

buildings are a bit wierd to do, i know we pioneered the msts building2lomo, it was fun figguring it out, we even released some.

i should see if i still have the ones that were never released.

edit: ooops this is getting a bit off topic.. how about those farm mods!! ...

the ore cars do not seam to work they cause lomo to crash when it checks the object data files,

also in your f7 cabs set you need to fix the names of the trains, you have a rock island alco DL109 named as a pa, you also have E units named as F units,

if you need some help with fixing any of this I will help you in any way i can.

Not off topic at all. the farm mod should have different buildings. All I did was repaint the exsisting ones. There's no program I know of that can shrink the builds prior to going to msts2loco, so only fix would be to rebuild all the buildings, ( a task I don't feel up to at the moment) so repaints were done

Does loco just merely crash or give you an error message on ore cars? Is it all the ore cars or certain ones? Details of where when and how it crashes. I've had no problems with any of them.
The misnameing of some loco's was unknown. The set is conversions of existing MSTS stock of mine. Some I do recall "patching" to fit a certain type train that no one had modelled and I made do with what was available.
Warning..... warning.... the Loco-fleet will have nameing errors. (past releases and future ones also). I'm only releasing what I've had a hand in making at MSTS level. Many improvements and new(er) diesels have been released I just haven't got to looking at how to adapt adjust and overcome shortcomings some have. Many don't / won't convert thru msts2loco because the author used freight anim to make the 's' file and the tool does backread to get all info
While I am thinking about it anyone know of a loco type that haven't seen that they would like to? I have so many but they'll be in the color scheme (or similiar) to those above.

first here are the misnamed engines

the CP Alco PP is actualy a FA1
the Rock Island PA is a DL109 (love those DL109's)
the GM&O PA is A FA1
the NY Central PA is a ? I think its a Erie Built CPA
the C&O F7A is a E7/8
the SP F7A Daylight is a Rock Island F7A
the ATSF GP20 Alligator is a low hood Alco RSD15

the ore cars cause lomo to have a error message when the game is starting up and checking the object data files, then it crashes, this kept happening untill i took all of the ore cars out of the object file (i did this one by one)

hope this helps

Fixed the names and even added LP to front of name to keep out of Plastic man's way  I hadn't thought about how confusing it could become. Didn't do the alligator it's in another rar which will be updated later

the ore car problem so far seems to me a lone case, but then again hasn't been out long enough for a complete evaluation. I think it might be a missing cargo type.

a few more problems for you to fix

the ATSF RSD15's are way too long

the 40' box cars and the grain hoppers all turn sideways when they go up or down ramps

most of the engines need to have their bogie positions fixed, (some are too close and the GM&O FA1 is really way off)

you also have 3 or 4 of the same TTX flatcars/stack cars with different names

I hope this helps

Yes it diffinately helps. Not sure what the problem is with boxcars and hoopers... I didn't notice it when I tested but will check
the Engine problem will possibly require removal from set as setting bogey positions just seems to be a problem for me. The TTX car dups were so many folders to choose from I can see how I duplicated. I made over 100 different combinations and the original nameing pattern from MSTS was a nightmare that followed me here.

Yep I see what you mean about sideways.... looks like a whole reworking of the hoppers and boxcars.... meanwhile Jose has a nice set out available at AMI... I looked at the set and the quality of graphix is a lot better. I don't know of any problems with his set.

I'll start reworking the cars and loco's in the morning.

For the boxcars in VC did you set the gargo type as Goods/Food/Grapes? becuase it sets the code like this

Code: Select all

		<cargotype id="8">0</cargotype>
		<cargotype id="9">512</cargotype>
the 512 makes the dat look for another set of graphics for the food, but cant kind them do they use ceratin diagonal sprites. Open the XML using notepad and remove the 512, then it should be fine. :)

Yes I did and used wagon for type. I know better and feel so foolish for trying to use VC for mass production of cars, Although slower going with loco tool and peter's xml editor I don't get the dumb errors.  I checked all the rolling stock and it's not only the 40 footer and grain hoppers it's also the 50 foot box cars. Dang that's 60 to redo from scratch!! Well I might as well give them all nice clean brand new ones.

I'll be busy all weekend now with this and the other work can wait.

I use VC as much as i can but like you said it does make silly errors. I will have a look at the .XMLs and see if i can see anything wrong.
