INFRA - Change of URL

Post by SAC »

Just in case some of you have tried to visit the INFRA website for TTDLX graphics, only to find a "404 Error", I'd like to inform that I've changed my account, (a faster and a much cheaper one to that :P ).

The old URL, (http://web.telia.com/~u19311232/INFRA.html), is no longer in use and have been replaced with;

http://web.telia.com/~u00302973/INFRA.html

Please update your bookmarks if you by any chance had the previous URL stored somewhere on your computer. Also note that I haven't gotten around to place anything on the new site as of yet since I activated the new account as late as today. This means you'll get a "404 Error" for a period of time ahead at this new address as well. Due to some real life job circumstances I'm away from home almost every Monday through Thursdays, and won't be able to update the site but on weekends only. I'll try to put up all the new stuff as soon as possible though. Since I don't visit this place anylonger on an active basis, (this message is an exception), I'd appreciate if you could point people to this information - in case anyone should have questions about INFRA!

Thanks guys!

Sorry to say, but this new URL also gives a 404.

Not here, it gives me a "under construction" notice. But no 404. :) So it's working.

SAC, might I direct you to this thread?

I mean, your work is amazing, but his work is awesome aswell. :D
You might want to talk with this guy and team up.

It does say you'll still get a 404 error Rob...

Hey I think it is quite a pity how things went with SAC and I know it has been discussed sufficiently, but just for keeping up the memory and concept of her - does anybody know what she is doing? Does anybody know if there is still a chance the whole INFRA thing will come to further realisations? Or does anybody know if her website will come back to something that at least shows her wonderful work instead of the page saying under construction?

Thanks for any hints

You may want to read her post above. She has taken the time to move to a new and faster server. That means that she is still committed to INFRA. You will also notice that she mentions that she has real life issues such as working for a living so she can't devote quite as much time to INFRA. The inference here is that she is still working on it, just not as much as before. So what can you do? First add that link to your bookmarks and then visit her site every now and then and watch as she grows the site into something quite remarkable. I know that's what I will be doing every Sunday evening after she has had a weekend to work her INFRA wonders. :D

I haven't seen any change there for the last three months. :(
So I don't think she's still working on it. Three months is a long time.

It's actually a rather short time when real life starts interfering...

SAC isn't dead, she isn't abandoning her projects. Things are a tad quiet, but we have lives away from TTD to attend to...

All sarcasm aside, some people keep forgetting this, and automaticly assume that either:

1) The project in question is abandoned.

2) The rights to said project are abandoned (and is then free-game for anyone and everyone)

3) The coder/artist/whatever should be replaced or offload all of his projects.

They're bulls*** assumptions and they're annoying me. It seems to be that it's fine for, let's say, Michael to disappear and not be heard from in a month, and not see any releases in even longer stretches of time, but for anyone else, they should abandon all their projects into the public domain and leave discretely... Or work their arses off and release something.

I'd name specific people who have been doing this, but I really cannot be arsed justifying myself to a bunch of people I really don't have the time for...

Also, all kidding aside, I couldn't agree more with this. This whole notion of people "taking over" without the rest of the communities approval is a bit rude. "Volunteering" coding services used to be one thing, but "assuming the role of leader and then bossing everyone around" is the opposite.

Yes, coders and artists for each project are far from abundant. That doesn't mean they can hold their skills to ransom to get project members to do their bidding.

Fortunately, these are all isolated incidents, and only appear once every few months, if that.

Comments like that are not appreciated. You should know better George.

I'm not going to go into details about why thats a silly thing to say, but if anything of the sort is mentioned again, it'll be removed.

I´m confident that it´ll be released in due time. At least it´s not abandoned, I´ve been working on it yesterday evening and this morning (even before breakfast :P ).

It´s only by the fact that 0.83 got lost, that the release of 0.9 seems to be such late. OTOH, it´ll contain a load of novel features, many of them not seen before. 8)

OTOH2, the weather is exceptionally fine over here (well, since weeks) so I don´t think there will be much further progress over the weekend ...

Although no longer part of this particular site anymore, I at least think I should step in to prevent rumours or other "nasty" things to occur.

Nope, INFRA is not dead. Nor is real life. And that pretty much explains the slow progress lately.

I've made some preparations to start up a new site for game graphics with a new URL - and a new domain. All there's to do is to find a descent host here in Sweden - but above all, a programmer who can help me "build" this site. So basically there are some things to do before I can make any of it available to the public.

As far as the entire INFRA-project regards, I'm planning to make a "make-over" of all the stuff made so far by improving and adjust most of the stuff to make it look even better in game. The general idea is to create something like an INFRA Tycoon set that offers a completely new landscape along with additional graphics for buildings, automata, and so on. Again, lack of time will obviously have an impact on the time frame itself, but eventually...

Anyways, a game like this, TTDLX, will most likely live for a long time ahead thanks to its simplicity compared to new similar games, so I wouldn't really worry about TTDLX getting abandonded or something like that anytime soon. Do you?

Have a nice summer everyone! 8)
