I believe the next update will be available on AMI once it's uploaded and posted to the site.

legs4poets wrote:I'll finish up the ace files before converting.. I had thought about 2050 HP at 65 mph for the GP and 2300 HP at 55 mph for the SD. Both are of the "snoot" or alligator type Just to set the looks apart from gp 7/9 and sd7/9 which they are rebuilds of. Or would.
Engine General Motors 645-12E3 (57/0)
General Motors 645-F3B-12 (57/3 and 57/6)
Engine output 2,500 hp (57/0)
2,750 hp (57/3 and 57/6) 1,860 kW (57/0)
2,050 kW (57/3 and 57/6)
Max. Tractive Effort 55,000 lbf 244.5 kN
Power at Rail 2,025 hp 1,507 kW

Those figures are for a class57 rebuild using a GM 2 stroke diesel engine so looking at your suggestion Legs I'd say 2050 hp would be incredibly low for a main unit power rating when looking at those figures the Horsepower at the Rail is effectively 475hp below that of the engine rating allowing for transmission and thermal in-efficiencies. 2050Hp would probably suggest that you are looking at about 1750? RHP and that when taken into acount with adhesion factors ( particularly important with a C-C arrangement ) that would suggest an engine suitable as a switcher or moderate haulage unit.

I think the SD12 worked out fair and will be put out for beta testing soon. The GP12 is really poor IMHO so set it back to drawing board, beefed it up and turned out a GP88 The SD 12 will be in the 3000 to 3500 hp range available from 1968 until 2008 where it's replaced by the GP88 at 4300 hp multi-fuel

Working on an efficiency rating of about 82% allowing for all losses in electrical and mechanical sources and assuming the provision of Slow Speed Traction Control systems, you get

RHP for a 3000hp Prime mover unit of 2,460
RHP for a 3500hp Prime mover unit of 2,870

That again would depend upon adhesion factors ( although mitigated by SSTC) wheelslip and continuous generator ratings would be the deciding factor in using a B-B or C-C arrangement. As for power systems I would say that being in mind the upper RHP for the 3,500hp unit that an AC power system using separate inverters for each axle would work better than DC as at speed you will get power commutation problems as the stage field weakening would not overcome the current generated by the axle motors at speed.

Also working on a basic autocad locomotive design which if I finish it eventually will be for anyone to mod as a lomo dat and I will not ask anyone to credit me as its designer either

GP88 seems to have some pulling power

The car racks are actually all empty but set to 60tons each to test

What are you running the total train weight at?

not surprised at 4,300hp that concurrent with either an EMD SD90MAC or an GE Dash 9

When I finish my experimenting dragging car-racks around I'll double the dead wieght of each to 120 tons per car dragging 2660 tons, FInishing up 2 more versions of the car racks. The car racks are NOT prototype in they are about 17.6 meters (57.75ft)less the coupler length. They should be 27.13 meters (89 feet). But they look pretty good IMHO

I'm noticing some repainting going on here and if they are not your original model, I would strongly advise that you ensure you have the original modellers permission.

To keep every happy I will show my work in stages from frame sub assembly to attaching another major part like engine cover. etc etc.
The original files I had upload of my own creation of what others have done... for example a rebuilding the entire engine from pictures will NOT be done anymore. Therefor since the sd11 was a from scratch built fantasy locomotive I can't claim it as mine as I modelled my engine hood from a picture of Dick Cowen's gp9 The gp88 was a scratch built in the future EMD but alas I am not sure if I can claim it. The engine hood was modelled from a picture of Maple Leaf tracks SD40 (I think).

With that in mind that limits the style I can use. I'll wait for the dust to settle and see where things stand. I'll continue to model, show it in stages, and show finish project and wait a few weeks to see what reactions it causes, and then perhaps publish it.
