Re: [OTTD] UKRS2 - Public Alpha (pa 0.41) 13/07/10
I have been watching this thread with interest, as I have played countless hours of OpenTTD with the original UKRS and UKRS2 seems to be a definite advancement.
A couple of issues I have found with 0.41:
* Autorenew/Autoreplace doesn't seem to work with either the AEC Railcar or the Metro-Cammell DMU, not sure why this is, just that they refuse to replace, even when manually sent to depot.
* The third-rail EMUs pick up the "Electric Engine" colour scheme rather than the EMU scheme I would expect. Is there a reason for this? If they are supposed to be different from AC EMUs, how about using the Monorail colour schemes?
Having looked at the website, I see that the Deltic and Class 67 have been added to the list. These were the two that I thought would be most missed when I originally saw the PJ1K/UKRS2 lineup! Although it would be nice to have the Eurostar... I for one quite like building a high-speed network when my main intercity routes become too congested!
I am somewhat puzzled by the inclusion of the Class 325 though, since in reality this is a mail-only EMU. I would have thought the visually similar Class 365 "Networker" would be a better choice, maybe having it "morph" into the 325 when refitted for mail could be an option?
Also, how about an earlier dual-voltage EMU? The quite underpowered Class 313 would make a good choice in my opinion and be a good representative for the "PEP" (1972 design) family of EMUs, including the 507, 508, 314 and 315.
Much appreciate the set though, keep up the good work!

Maybe we could include the dual voltage Class 92? I liked that locomotive in Locomotion

It will be a mail-only EMU in PJ1K too. One of the design goals of the set is making mail a more interesting cargo, rather than just being two-mail-cars-in-every-passenger-train. This couples with my TaI house set, which produces more mail per population than the default houses.mallardtheduck wrote:I am somewhat puzzled by the inclusion of the Class 325 though, since in reality this is a mail-only EMU.
In PJ1K, only locomotive hauled trains may have a mix of passenger and mail cars; most MUs will be limited to one or the other. I'm also planning to add TPO vehicles which will have a very fast load rate, but can only be used in mail-only trains.
As to the 313, it's slower than the 421 so I can't imagine it would get much use.
I too have noticed autorenewal/replacement issues with the Metro Cammell DMU. I guess it would need looking into further, but the cause may well be that it's an articulated vehicle made of different vehicle IDs.
Check the vehicle list. The 92 has been there from the start...NekoMaster wrote:Maybe we could include the dual voltage Class 92? I liked that locomotive in Locomotion

In that case, the lack of a dual-voltage EMU before the Electrostar seems a bit limiting. Even playing the alpha that doesn't have any AC EMUs, I can see a need for a dual-voltage EMU instead of running diesels across 100% electrified routes.PikkaBird wrote: It will be a mail-only EMU in PJ1K too.
As it happens, before you added 3rd rail vehicles to the UKRS2 list, I did begin planning my own UKRS/UKRS2 3rd-rail add-on pack (not that I've ever created a GRF before, but I thought it would be a good learning experience). In my plan, the 313 was included largely because it is slow and underpowered - so that it would only be used where dual-voltage was a requirement, or for very short-hop "metro" type services on either power system (as the PEP-type classes are used IRL). If it were cheaper to buy/run than the 421, it could justify this position. It would also "make up" for the lack of new 3rd rail stock between the 1960s and 1990s, while not replacing the 421 as it was an extremely long-lived class IRL.PikkaBird wrote: As to the 313, it's slower than the 421 so I can't imagine it would get much use.
I also included the 365 on my list as a more modern replacement for the 313...
BTW, will there be differences in power/top speed depending on track type for dual-voltage trains? IRL the 92 has a lower power output on 3rd rail and the 395 and Eurostar (please put it in!) are limited to 100mph...

There is a similar feature for the Type JB (for power and TE) stated on the wiki to be included in the set, see http://users.tt-forums.net/pikka/wiki/i ... BR_Type_JB
Re: [OTTD] UKRS2 - Public Alpha (pa 0.41) 13/07/10
i seem to have an issue. When i use the UKRS2 set there seem to be A LOT let diesel + electric trains am i doing something wrong or just being stupid?

well it isn't finished yet, pikka has been mainly focusing on earlier trains so far.

The blue-linked articles on the wiki indicate vehicles which have been completed in my local copy, but they're not all in the alpha version yet. New alpha soon.jonnie47 wrote:i seem to have an issue. I haven't come across any major clangers yet, but I hope to help with "breaking" the set in the future.

Re: [OTTD] UKRS2 - Public Alpha (pa 0.41) 13/07/10
I fear this one may already be becoming a hardy perennial (and is maybe academic if it's in the addons), but; I don't think that's specific to the Deltic. Given the way OTTD doesn't really provide any incentive to run services other than at the maximum speed possible, if players aren't deliberately running a variety of locomotives for aesthetic reasons then they're bound to standardise on one for pax and one for freight until high speed and tractive effort are available in one package, and then just use that. Pull the Deltic from UKRS1 and what would happen? Every game would be full of AL1s and then AL6s (and, indeed, I guess that's exactly what would happen in a Deltic-less UKRS2).PikkaBird wrote:Because every UKRS multiplayer game is full of Deltics and nothing else.NekoMaster wrote:Though I wonder, why did you remove the Deltic? Re: [OTTD] UKRS2 - Public Alpha (pa 0.41) 13/07/10
Isn't that be an opinion of the Deltic cannot pull freight cars except the Speedlink wagon? As I remember Andy draw almost all cargoes to that wagon, so not only goods can transported in that. Then, the player choose: have high capacity freight trains running slow, or have lower capacity Deltic freight trains with higher speed.
Re: [OTTD] UKRS2 - Public Alpha (pa 0.41) 13/07/10
If you add a dumpload of wagons, a low capacity wagon can still form a high capacity train.
Anyways, I think it's up to the player to choose what engine to use. Realistic players will use multiple sorts of engines, also if they might be less efficient. Others just pick what they think gives them the best profit.

Sorry for not mentioning it. Yep, I had a change of heart about the Deltic, I'd miss it too.damerell wrote:Well, that'll teach me to pay attention. Sorry.lawton27 wrote:http://users.tt-forums.net/pikka/wiki/i ... =EE_Deltic

On the other hand, the running costs are quite well spread in this set. The base running cost of the Deltic is more than twice that of the Class 37, which makes it rather less attractive for slow freight. I consider anyone playing without wagon speed limits to be a lost cause, btw.

Yeah, but more wagons need longer stations, longer stations need more space, but there's not always have endless spaceFooBar wrote:If you add a dumpload of wagons, a low capacity wagon can still form a high capacity train.![]()

Re: [OTTD] UKRS2 - Public Alpha (pa 0.41) 13/07/10
For me, the Deltic is an express passenger locomotive, designed solely for that task and nothing else.
I always play realistically and always make massive amounts of money. I'm the type who'll double-head Type 1s (Class 20s) for coal trains even though they're not the most powerful.
