RACE TO THE NORTH (Virgin vs GNER)

Post by Goldsmith »

OK hope ive done nothing wrong this time and am following the rules...

Anyway... here is my first ever map...

Its designed to be a 2-player game, One of you as Virgin the other as GNER,

Its design to be more fun the accurate so ul find extra industys here and there.

The aim is to get a company value of 200,000,000 (which is the max) although we play to 1000,000,000 as its pretty easy to get to 200,000,000.

Realy hope you like it as i respect all of your work!

Hope i have done it right... Enjoy

Attach the screenies as you did the zip files. Convert the .bmp files to .png's using MSPaint. Simples.

Um. Spellcheck? I think its Felixstowe and Carlisle. Might be nice if you corrected the spelling and rezipped (just an idea, not an order).

it's a route map style, so you can fold long skinny maps over each other. just like the serpent.

I've been wondering too where those rocky bits are for, but I don't understand this answer at all.

Folding maps over each other? How, and why?
And what's snakes got to do with it?

Been using the search, but it is mentioned a couple of times, but never explained...

trail and error, and experimenting over and over, trying different things all the time. Do this for a while and you will make really good maps.

Obscure reference. It can be googled, but probably not funny if you don't follow the site you get as first result regularly. Couldn't resist though.

Constructive comments:

1. I really like the idea, and even a single player could enjoy this. The race to the north was a famous episode in railway history and its a great idea to re-create it in Loco.

2. If its meant to be Virgin v GNER, why include the Midland, Great Western and South Western main line towns? Concentrate on the ECML and WCML ones (but include only key stations) and it could work really well.

3. The attempt to show the entire IC network means that some of the towns are probably too close together for the trains to have a chance at 100-125mph running.

4. (minor) I'm slightly confused as to why Harrogate is placed where it is.

I hope these comments help - I think the map is actually a decent first attempt, and I welcome you to the forums.

@Kingmush and tskjook - the rocky bits are there to channel the player down a certain path, thus re-creating a real life linear route.
