alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
Hi
I have loaded a game into OpenTT that was originally created in TT Patch.
All is OK except that the alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly - they are just showing as the defaults. I have imported the extra grf, and I can create new stations using the alternative graphics set.
Also if I try to delete the existing stations to re-built them with the new graphics, the game crashes.
Any comments / fixes /ideas

That might be due to that loading TTD Patch games is currently not fully supported. If it works, you're lucky. If it doesn't work, well, too bad...
I'd say if that's the only problem and you want to keep that game for some reason, load it in Patch and replace all stations by the default ones. Then go back to OTTD and see what that does.

And you might want to upload the game with a bug report to OpenTTD's bug tracker at bugs.openttd.org - officially it should support loading TTDP games (though certainly not those aspects unique to TTDP), but newgrf stations are no feature which is unique to TTDP.

Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
Wrong. Officially it should support loading TTD games. That some TTDPatch games (and some features) work is just a bonus.planetmaker wrote:And you might want to upload the game with a bug report to OpenTTD's bug tracker at bugs.openttd.org - officially it should support loading TTDP games (though certainly not those aspects unique to TTDP), but newgrf stations are no feature which is unique to TTDP.
He's like, some kind of OpenTTD developer.

Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
Hi Chaps
Thanks for getting back so promptly.
I have tried saving my same without the new graphics in TTDPatch (ie grf disabled) and then loading it into OpenTTD. This loads without any problems. The problem is when I try to delete an existing station to rebuild it with the new graphics, thats the point at which the crash occurs.
The stations are large and spread out, with 10+ platforms, so it may be a seperate problem to do with the handling of large stations - I might try reducing them temporarily to a basic size with TTDPatch, eand then loading into OpenTTD

Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
OpenTTD has a setting which you can change to increase station spread. You could try tinkering with that.
Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
As long as you don't post a savegame all we can do is guess what's wrong.
Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
only disabling the grf will not be enough, try to overbuild them with the default station in TTDP.robinski50 wrote:without the new graphics in TTDPatch (ie grf disabled)
and i can only emphasise Yexo's statement, if you don't post a savegame, nobody can do anything, especially not implement this conversion correctly.

That savegame loads without problems, and removing some stations didn't crash OpenTTD. What version of OpenTTD are you using? What are the exact steps needed to reproduce a crash?robinski50 wrote:I have tried saving my same without the new graphics in TTDPatch (ie grf disabled) and then loading it into OpenTTD. Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
I'm using version 0.7.1
Try deleting "GEACOMBE RIVERS VALLEY"
The problem seems to be with stations that are linked with "non-track" tiles in the new grf.
in the import these are short stretches of track at right angles to the true lines
In the case of "GEACOMBE RIVERS VALLEY" you can delete the left had 4 platforms, but then trying to delete the right side causes a crash

Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
It did crash here as well...
I blew up the northern tile of the unused bit of Rundhattan-on-sea station (the one to the upper left/top when opening the save). The dynamite removed just three tiles of the station, but greyed out the station name sign. That sign disappeared after a short while renaming the station to "unknown station" with no station sign...
Crash occurs right at the point where a new train arrives at the station.
Attached is crashlog and crash.dmp

Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
Looks more like OpenTTD doesn't load non-uniform stations from TTD; for what it's worth, non-uniform stations weren't part of TTD.
As said quite often, TTDpatch savegames aren't officially supported, so any bugs caused by loading them aren't really a big issue. You might get more support by supplying TTDP savegames that don't use any features that are not in OpenTTD than already corrupted, due to incorrectly loading a TTDP savegame, OpenTTD savegames.

Re: alternative station graphics are not displayed correctly
Yes. Your openttd savegame is broken, but if you upload your ttdpatch savegame someone might be able to add loading non-uniform stations from ttdpatch, so you can load your savegame in openttd.robinski50 wrote:Sorry
