Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.02 21 Feb 09]
I think I found a bug, or at least i think it is. When using NARS2 with the ECS Industries I can't re-gear trains, now I think I know what it is, since ECS has so many cargo types it probably over rides the re-gearing refit. Is there anyway to make the re-gearing work with ECS?

For me, when I have NARS2 and ECS both loaded, the locomotives carry limestone.
If I remember correctly, ECS uses all cargo slots, so logically it overrides regearing.

F***, also, if you have ANY ECS Loaded, it still over rides re-gearingRailwaymodeler wrote:For me, when I have NARS2 and ECS both loaded, the locomotives carry limestone.

Then load NARS2 on top of ECS vectors (i.e. put NARS2 lower in the list). The only ECS vector you can't use together with regearing is the Construction vector.

Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.02 21 Feb 09]
I would like to make a suggestion:
In a game on OTTD I was playing with this very fine set, I retained a few EMC Doodlebugs till the 1950s. I was trying to replicate the operating style of short line railroads in the early postwar period. Anyway, I found that when I added a coach car to the doodlebug, it showed up as the streamlined design.
Now, I would like to suggest that the doodlebug and maybe some steam locomotives (Ten-Wheeler and Consolidation, and possibly 4-4-0) never run with the streamlined coaches, that the graphics always stay as heavyweights.
Find some picture books by Lucius Beebe. These books are older, but show many photos of steam in the 1940s and 1950s. There's a lot of old, ancient steam, kept for war demands, and older stock to boot. The C&EI had older 4-6-0s, suited for Illinois flatland, and I don't think they ever pulled streamlined varnish.
Would it be possible to have some sort of livery over-ride that allows the player (Until probably 1970) to select heavyweight coaches? I would also like to use a heavyweight passenger car on the back of a freight train, like many branches had. Having a freight with a streamlined coach on back looks very strange.

Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.02 21 Feb 09]
Older built coaches should retain their appearance (ie, a coach built in the 1930's will still look like a heavyweight in the 1970's). If you build a coach during the "streamlined" period, then that's what it will be. Best way to keep the "heavyweight" look is to buy new streamlined coaches for your long distance trains and shuffle the heavyweights to the older trains. That's how the real roads did it

Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.02 21 Feb 09]
I considered this, Dan, but the issue I ran into was when I built a branchline sometime in the 1940s. Usually I like to start in the 1920s (Though recently, with eGRVS I have been starting as early as 1870s!) and it is sometimes hard to shift around coaches. Though I have to do what the prototype did-- leave the heavyweights in a depot (Sort of like leaving them in a yard) and attach them to a train that can deliver them to another depot where they will be needed.
Gives me the idea for 'railyard' graphics depot, maybe something buildable like Snorbuckle's larger depots. Trains can come out of a backshop or engine house then.

With apologies to PikkaBird for the off-topicRailwaymodeler wrote:Gives me the idea for 'railyard' graphics depot, maybe something buildable like Snorbuckle's larger depots. Trains can come out of a backshop or engine house then.

I build railyard depots by going to ISR and stringing a line of their sheds behind a depot. The sheds are hardly functional, but they sure are purdy.

Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.02 21 Feb 09]
Where is the fun of NARS2 if you don't have old steam locomotives and wooden passenger coaches tucked away in a depot somewhere?
I start as early as 1850 myself. Double-headed woodburning 4-4-0 Americans, pulling short trains of logs and iron ore through the mountians- just like it really happened. Once the Mogul comes out, it's a godsend. Then the improved 4-4-0 to speed up passenger trains. And then the ten wheelers. . .
Would love to see a way to rebuild/renew old rolling stock so that you could keep steam up into the 21st century. I would love to keep a locomotive and cars from pre-1900 around until 2000 or so, then build a tourist line, but with breakdowns on the reliability of a 100 year old locomotive is not good.

You do know you can turn on Vehicles never expire, though its not as realistic, but it could be like, maybe your company held the designs and stuff for the trains and such for later use

Running cost randomly changes at short period of time. Is it OK? Sometimes values multiple just at end of year ---> insane negative profile warnings.
Other sets display right values.
I started new game with default NARS parameters and no other grfs, not a lot changed.
(OTTD r16527)
(sorry for bad english)

As for the lower price at the station, the set was made so that trains idling will have cheaper running cost then when its moving

Ayay, now I see it. 3M during acceleration, 2M on top speed and 1M in station. Thx for info.
Don't know. Didn't change date or newgrf settings during game. How are the runnign costs so high in only 2014! In Pounds too!!
Re: NARS2 - the North American Renewal Set [2.02 21 Feb 09]
The only reasonable explanation is inflation.
Try finding the switch for it and turning it off before you start a new game.

Im playing a game around that time and the trains are less then 50 grand a year, though it might be cause I have my Running costs set to lowSkeedR wrote:The only reasonable explanation is inflation.

I think it depends when the game starts: I once started a game in 1795 and by the early 20th century, inflation had taken its toll!
Was a fun game, playing with just carriages in the eGRVS set, then when the grasshopper locomotive comes out, my transport company finally took off!

Hmm, well i started a game in the 1960's so Ill see how the inflation goes for running costs

If it does then they are not settable by any parameter that I know of. That would make the short answer: No. Of course that may change in a future release at PikkaBird's discretion.LaDoncella wrote: doesn't NARS have variable running cost?
