I have installed OpenTTD and copied my TTD data across.
Questions:
1.What AI should I install and pick for the competitors? Which is the best currently?
2.What newgrf sets do you guys recommend for someone new to openttd and newgrf and stuff but not to ttd? Not looking for anything that radically changes the gameplay, just things that enhance the way the game plays.
3.Is there a way to get openttd to have the music from transport tycoon and not transport tycoon deluxe? (i.e. the older title music?)
4.Any other downloads I should download?
5.What features are there in OpenTTD but not in TTD that I should look out for or learn how to use?
Also, is there a program to convert a grf file so I can look at the graphics (specifically the openttdw.grf that comes with openttd and the stock game grf files)

There are no recommendations and cannot be as tastes are different. Get some using the ingame content download and see yourself.jonwil wrote:I have installed OpenTTD and copied my TTD data across.

copy the "gm" folder into your openttd data folder3.Is there a way to get openttd to have the music from transport tycoon and not transport tycoon deluxe? (i.e. the older title music?)
I propose to have a look at the wik / manuali for that. It also has a page which answers exactly that question.5.What features are there in OpenTTD but not in TTD that I should look out for or learn how to use?
Look for grf2html which will create a nice html page out of it or use grfcodec in order to decompile it into the code and the single graphics. Both programmes can be found in this forum which has a good search function. Also, is there a program to convert a grf file so I can look at the graphics (specifically the openttdw.grf that comes with openttd and the stock game grf files)

2) Have a look through grfcrawler as well: http://grfcrawler.tt-forums.net/
3) Impossible. OpenTTD only supports the Windows version of the TTD music. I suggest getting some mp3 versions of the TTO music and playing that using an external player; disabling the OpenTTD ingame music.

Re: new to openttd, some questions
I have some suggestions for nr. 2, as I have myself only recently discovered OTTD, and I was in your situation myself.jonwil wrote:I have installed OpenTTD and copied my TTD data across.

All though the best way is of couse for you to try stuff your self, I would suggest that you try the GRF's that supply new vehicles:
ex:
2cc Train Set 1.01 (or NARS)
Aviaters Aircraft v.1.501
eGRVTS
That will give you a lot of different new trains, trucks and planes.
If you want something that only changes some grafic, then look at stuff like "New Fences", "Bigger Depot", "Total Bridge Renewal set 1.12" and others.
The best way to test GRF's, to see what you like, is to start a testgame, and then load different GRF's, test them, then remove them, and load a new set of GRF to test them untill you find a GRF-Package you like.
