Edititing Speeds and Horsepower

Post by exi123 »

Hello everybody,

i hope this is the right place for my question: Im searching for a tool to open a grf (like dbset) and change the values like speed, horsepower and more. I tried to change it by extracting the grf with the grfwizard and editing the nfo by myself, but i dont understand the way how it works...

No, this is not the right place I think but I don't think this question fits in perfectly in another forum category either. What you are looking for is called GRFMaker. I believe the topic is on this very first page of the Graphics subforum.

No, it really isn't.

As a wise man once said, GRFMaker is an alternative to writing nfo, not a substitute for understanding nfo.

What he´s asking for is something like ttdalter but for .grfs, which doesn´t exist.

The correct answer to his question would have been this one.

He's asking for a tool to change the nfo, not to understand it. And what I remember from GRFmaker is that it tends to clarify things. But you could be right, perhaps that only goes for people with at least basic knowlegde of nfo's.

And since we're weighing every word on a golden scale I must say michael isn't right either. What you refer to isn't a tool too after all. But in conclusion: something like ttdalter would do the trick but sadly it doesn't exist.

GRFMaker cannot import GRF/NFO AFAIK.

GRFMaker can import many .nfo files, but certainly not all, and the process is not completely straightforward.

Any grf produced with GRFMaker can be imported again (hopefully!), even if you only have the nfo and pcx. The imported result will not look exactly like the original GRFMaker project, every sprite will have a GRFMaker line of its own. It is certainly possible to change the speed and horsepower in this, and create a new grf. I've tested this with my Swedish set, which is created in GRFMaker, and after importing the nfo, I can create an equivalent grf again.

Hand crafted nfo, on the other hand, will most probably not work, or at least it will not help much, as many sprites will be imported as raw nfo blocks. I've tested loading DBSetxlw, and GRFMaker reads it without crashing, but I haven't verified that the same grf can be produced again...
