@Roujin: Dunno, but do regular docks have entry-gates at all?

Btw, why don't we actually put so much effort in every single sprite for the replacement project? Would that not be a good idea? "The first multi-generation graphics project of OTTD"

Glad you like it.

I've done some more work in the train a few hours ago and now I've finished all other directions like in Red*Star's last example. I must say, drawing random pixels for the road and sidewalk surfaces is fairly easy on a moving train. Drawing with a touchpad is hard, but on a shaky train it's even harder, resulting in very random pixels

Anyways, I'm going to figure out what to do with the streetlights...

For the game the dock is OK, but for RL... Have you ever seen such a tall dock?
That's why I said the road should slope to the dock.

Docks in real life are fairly tall. I think this picture illustrates that nicely. While our dock might be a bit high, shrinking it by two px would suffice, but going downhill for exactly 2 px would probably also look weird...

Could you maybe first post a screenshot of the dock with a ship by it's side? To see if it looks weird / is too high or not...

The last one posted needs higher walls, though. It seems as if it's floating slightly above the water, because the proportions are very slightly wrong.

I have absolutely no idea about docks in real life  It was just an idea for something to put there, since it looks so... empty right now.

Erm.. am I blind? I don't really see what you did in that picture..

<Lakie> Well, they do the same thing but the code is different.

Absolutely! Every ship dock I have come across has a security gate for several reasons:

1) Customs control - ensure imports/exports are legitimate
2) Protect public from dangerous hazards - like driving off the end of the dock - USA excepted ;) They let any idiot drive into the sea/river according to Hollywood movies ;)
3) Most docks are private property, and so are fenced in.
4) To give OTTD artists a reason to draw security fences & customs posts ;)

That's just because we are accustomed to higher docks in the "original" TTD. I think if we add some splashing water around it (I forgot to add it to the final version), that problem will be gone

That sounds quite logical. Although the only dock *I* came across (well, the only one I do remember ) had maybe fences, but definitely no gates. Probably the dock was to small.

I'm sure FooBar will add some really nice and cute details me when he is ready with the base ;). I just took his base and modified it to show a solution for the "hard" road-end.

Oh, now it's my base? I thought I was modifying your base all along :D

Sure I'll add some more detail!

Was thinking about that this morning myself. Would definitely solve the "hovering" effect I think.

Actually, my pixes are Zephyris pixels, as I put his road surface on top of your dock. Just moving pixels around. Call me "the pixel mover" if you like. :D

Poll's closed but I'd vote neither.
Zephyr's has too little detail, Redstar's too much. In my opinion is should be more similar to nice stone-stacked shape that is the current graphics except with a somewhat different cracks pattern.
