Suggestion/how to-install items

Post by ashchetum »

There might be a few of you people out there who are lost with winrar, I have a solution for you.
7zip!
http://www.7-zip.org/
What you do when you get a zip file to install into loco, you save the files to your desktop and right click on them. Down to "extract examplefile to folder "examplefile folder" . Open the new folder on your desktop and drag and drop your dat. files to your object data folder ect.

Notice: I do not endorse or own (for that mater) 7zip.

uhh hate to say it,, winzip and winrar both do that...

also with winzip and winrar, if you use the program itself it remembers you lomo folder for extraction right into it (not that i do myself)

actually, i dislike 7-zip because the browser is not intuitive.
not to mention if you 7-zip a file, most people you give it to cant open it without 7zip.

I cant install items without 7zip, winwar always glitches on me.
It might have someting to do with the computer I use to play lomo, which is running Windows server 2000.
I normally use my other computer running XP/KDE (a version of linux)

When you download and copy a .dat file into your objdata folder, you need to create a new scenario with the advanced settings of adding in other vehicles. Then you can pick and choose what additions you'd like.

Are you sure they're in the right folder? find the folder locomotion is installed in (typically it's 'C:\Program Files\Atari\Locomotion' but you may have installed it somewhere else) and there should be a a folder called 'ObjData' you need to move all the '.dat' files into that folder before they'll appear in game. I'm pretty sure you can only do this before you run locomotion, as it checks the object files at each startup.

as i said earlyer the files don't download in compressed folders but rather one unreconized folder and when i turn them into note pad docs like all the other objects nothing happens and yes they're in the right folder is there a way to turn the downloaded files into "zipped" files?

plus (again noob) but now the files automaticly download as a note pad file.

So have you got WINRAR (or that other program what was it... 7zip) installed on your computer? that's step one.
Step 2: open the downloaded file with either program, and extract the files
Step 3: copy the extracted files into the '/objdata' folder
Step 4: start up Locomotion, and create a scenario in the editor
Step 5: enjoy!

I believe that the reason the computer doesn't recognise the files as compressed folders is that you haven't got the relevant program installed. Also note that what windows opens as 'compressed folders' is a 'zip' file, not a 'rar' archive.

And you shouldn't have any notepad files... (I assume here that you mean *.txt)

Once you download it, you have to remake it into a file like it was (because that is a Winrar compressed file). If you don't have winrar, you will need to download it as it cannot be remade using winzip, the other common software used for this. Once it has been reformed into its normal size, put it into the objdata folder and then it should appear in the scenario editor.

oh lord...

1 Go to www.RARSOFT.com and get the free version of winrar.

2 once you have that installed, double click on the downloaded add-on pack file. (Something.RAR)

3 inside you will see either an exe file, just double click that and follow the instructions.if there is no EXE file, but instead a series of ***.dat files, drop those into your Locomotion/Objdata folder.

4 use the built in scenario editor to use the new files.

first what you do is extract those files, then see if you have new vehicles called forklift ad one called kiosk, they look like goods wagons, eneble them, go to the track section and enable goods and passenger base plates, then go to the stations section and eneble all the stations, like dummy platform & such, enjoy.
May the force be with you.
