Just a quick question, when you had your first 100.000.000 in that contest-scenario?

I must admit that I turned breakdowns off ;)

Good luck beating 37 billion :)

Very nice. Too bad you turned breakdowns off. Now we can't really compare your result with both monthu and my attempts. Would you mind uploading a savegame?

I can't remember that, unfortunately.

I might just do that. Trunk has this new river feature, and I have to try that out anyways :)
I probably will use some other trainset than the TTD defaults, because I don't like that upgrade to monorail and maglev stuff. If you're not used to using that, I'll write some instructions...

Here's my scenario

If you like to play my scenario, please post your results in topic indicated above (the one where you can get the scenario), so things don't get messed up here in this topic 8)

I just hate breakdowns. Here's the savegame.

Very nice! Highly efficient network you got there!

But you have to tell me, why is it that your industry production values are rediculously high? How'd you manage to do that?

PS
I also hate breakdowns, and usually disable them in my games too

Thanks :)

Well, production just grows over time. They grow faster if your ratings are high, so keep them above 80%.

Station walking. I note that many people "walk" stations and have one common station for 3 or 4 industries. Is this permissible?
I think that I may never see,
A billboard as lovely as a tree.
Perhaps, unless the billboards start to fall,
I may never see a tree at all.

Do you see somewhere that it's not permissable? No? Then it's permissable.

I tried to find that option in the last beta at least two times and didn't find it :(

Hehe nice network.
It's the first time I see double engine trains. Nice, it sure gives extra acceleration.

I would give it a try if I wasn't already playing a game with a friend.
Maybe next challenge :D

That option is in the difficulty settings.
With long trains you need dual engines for reaching top speed. Else it doesn't have enough power.

That's it, I knew I saw the option before, but thought it was on the patches.
The extra acceleration is also a good bonus :)

True. I always used trainlength 12, with two engines. However, I switched to trainlength 16, and I am now thinking if I should have 3 engines (giving trainlength 18). Would have the same length:engine ratio that way.

Thought I might try a bit of a different approach - concentrate growing the towns and moving passengers and mail. I'm just planing out the layout using the money cheat first, then I'll start from scratch and build it normally. So far I've got all of the top half done, and most of the bottom. The plan is to build 9 main stations in each city and have trains 40 cars long run on 18 circuit tracks between the them. I did a little test with 2 main stations to work out 6 platforms is about right, and they each need two tracks feeding them for anything slower than maglev to get >80% ratings with breakdowns on.

Something I've been wanting to try out for a while which seems to work well here is using alternating tunnels and bridges to run two tracks on just 1 tile (it looks cool too with trains running above an below).
Got round this one ok.

Unfortunately, there are some industries that are right in the way which I'm having a hard time getting around, so I might bulldoze them later when the cities get big if I can't find an alternative.
Mandatory servicing after leaving the station.PNG
1 depot for each platform - 3 depots per circuit track.

I've just got to finish the layout for the bottom city, then I'll start building it from the beginning and see how it goes. Hopefully the extra volume of passengers will make up for their lower payment rate - have to wait and see... ;)

I'm now using 12 (10 + 2 engines). I made a test once with 5 (4+1) and 10 (8+2) and the second had more acceleration, so it would be faster doing the delivery, giving a little more money than just 2x the train with 5. I guess that 15 (12 +3) would have even more acceleration.

So, a question.

how do you get the two cities to grow? I'm in the year 1970 and both cities are around 300 people.. I have an airport right next to the cities to transfer people between them. only one of them accepts goods, and only from time to time.

My first attempt yielded with 3 billion dollars in 2050, so this is attempt #2....

Five bus stops which move pax and have a bus atleast every 20 days.. and bring goods in
PS: And I stopped the propaganda to support Dave Worley since he got a nice new red hat now.[/color]
I know I have a BBCode error in my signature but I really cba to fix it.

I have no problem with the goods, the issue was getting the city to grow to the point of accepting goods in the first place!

thank you for your suggestion on bus stops.. they are a money loser at first, but it looks like they do help the city grow.

Well, i managed to get a company value of 24 billion and 23,5 billion of cash at 01/01/2051.

I made some crucial mistakes in the beginning and the southern town didn't grow very much and building of stations was rejected, beaucse of my "mistakes".
The northern towns Rotthorst had grown to 62.000 inhabitants!

Perhaps i will give it another try in 3 weeks when exams are finished...
