Oh, did it sound too harsh?? I didn't mean to! Not at all. I don't mind drawing in 2cc. I'm sorry if it sounded offending. I'll edit my post right away.Purno wrote:And, if you hate to do them in 2cc, I advice you to create a stand alone set.

I have been following the discussion and I am very interested in this set. I would like to add a couple of my impressions.
1. There are already some sets that have a combination of SG and NG.
2. A 100% NG set would be very interesting and would offer the same playability as any other set.
3. The possibility of featuring trains and liveries from around the world all in one set would be very educational.
4. The differences in the gauges used by the various real life NG systems should not be a concern as there is only one NG track available to the patch, so just design all NG trains to fit that one.
5. Complete a few trains to begin with and code them as a taster release. Then add others over time as updates to the set. Before long you will have a complete set.
6. With a few exceptions, the main differences in liveries will only affect engines and coaches. You should be able to make coaches automatically refitable for livery depending upon the engine. Freight wagons are usually generic and you would probably only need to make them refitable for cargoes.
I'm looking forward to your first release.

Hmm... Most of my sprites are finished and now I read that!
I understand these cuts! But for now I'm pretty sure I have drawn all needed (in tracking table) wagons for this set (2 or 3 to draw)
Hope these are useful in future!
And wallyweb's points are very good!

I've done some research on coding and it seems that it's mighty unpossible for me to code a .grf as it seems.
The programs used for coding a .grf are all for windows computers. I own a Macintosh, so this is most unlikely to be done by me...
--
Furthermore:
Please note that it's still uncertain that this set will be compatible with the 2cc set from Purno. If there is enough support for it, then it will become compatible. If not, this is going to be a standalone set and all approved graphics sent in will be used!

I can do the two French railcars for you, if you like. I will have to do them anyway for the FRSet, so I could start now and let you use them for your set as well.

@ISA:Staying home from work today (having a cold), I just couldn't keep myself from fiddling a bit with your wood wagon. The | views had a one pixel difference in length, and the load got shorter for each layer, so I 'corrected' them. Also a suggestion for the / \ views - lowering the contrast makes the logs look a bit more like logs and less like checker boards
(All IMO, of course)

No, not at all. I just don't want you to change your original idea too much just to be compatible with my set. I don't want to ruin your fun.Toni Babelony wrote:Oh, did it sound too harsh?? You didn't sound offending at all, I hope I did neither.

I look into this wagon length problem
And afaik this set contains locos all over the world! Even North American. And for that we need compromise and I think it would be drawing different wagons (American/Europe/etc). We still can refit wagons in different liveries/shapes, or can't we?
Maybe its too much work, but then we have opportunity to fit all locos with right wagon/s!
I would give it a try to draw some European wagons but I need to finish 'Shay' and re-work wood wagon!
Edit: Here is my 'Shay'. Opinions is welcome!
Some views needs work?!

Fitting wagons to some particular engines would be okay, but it wouldn't make the set uniform anymore. Maybe it's a good idea to make the north-american cars a tad lighter and a bit higher.
Also, my NG stock is 5-pixles wide and not 6 pixels wide. I think this is a better option, since 6-pixels is too wide and 4-pixes provide too little detail.
The overall look of the Shay looks really great, but there is a special 'trick' that makes the 'Shay' a 'Shay': the kettle is off-centre. I've seen that in your rear-| drawing, but in the \,/ and - view It's a bit hard to see.ISA wrote:Edit: Here is my 'Shay'. Opinions is welcome!

Well, yes, it takes a lot of practice. Is it your first steamer? If so, I'd suggest you to try with something easier than the Shay. That one is a bit tricky to do. Why don't you do one of the tank locomotives for this set? They would be more friendly pieces to start with.ISA wrote:Ok ill look what improvements I can make!

As for the Shay itself, don't you think it would look better if it were articulated?
Yes!Snail wrote:Is it your first steamer?
Yes its tricky but imo very good practice! Every view is very different and Ill like it, cuz in some standard steamers every side is same and then it is very easy to draw!Snail wrote:If so, I'd suggest you to try with something easier than the Shay. That one is a bit tricky to do.
Tank? What would that mean. I don't follow You! Is it like some easier steamer?Snail wrote:Why don't you do one of the tank locomotives for this set? They would be more friendly pieces to start with.
Yes I dough so, but after looking some of those pictures what I find there is small tender behind loco in on piece and then there is like some tender after it like wagon! See drawing below.Snail wrote:As for the Shay itself, don't you think it would look better if it were articulated?
Maybe I draw it after I have finished 'Shay' of course if I can finish it!?
