Perhaps not, but they still need to be darker/lighter, depending wether they are on the left or the right side, since light comes from the right.

Wo-wo wait.. a COMPLETE replacement set? Do you have any idea how long that will take?? Perhaps it's better to start with something smaller.. For instance, a set that replaces 5 trains or something..

replacement set

Post by m4rek »

a vehicle replacement set, that replaces all trains, for example can take upwards of a year to do well

i estimate 5 years for an entire lanscape/industry/vehicle set

the train is not bad for a start.
I would say that white is a difficult colour to start with, but this is not bad.
On the other hand, it could use a bit more shading, and maybe some pixel randomisation, just to make it look a bit more realistic.

more realistic?

Post by m4rek »

i think its as realistic as it can be...its a high speed train...all surfaces would be as smooth and flat as possible...everything would be a uniform colour, shape, and texture...resulting in very uniform colours...as for shading....that was almost exactly copied from Purno except with different colours...and you are right...white is evil

It looks really good, but some of the diagonal views look like they're smaller than the | and _ views.

As both the engine and the car are 31 pixels in _ view, they should have the same size in / \ views too, but they don't. In the / \ views the car side is 16 but the engine is 14. That's part of it.

The slanting front seems to have different angles in all three views. I think the front should be longer in the | views (easy) and shorter in / \ views (difficult). Maybe make the / \ views use 2:1 slope instead of 1:1? Like this loco I drew for the Dutch set, which has the same angle in the side view.
