The most generic and large pack of vehicles that you know

Post by lekkimsm2500 »

I've been struggling for couple of hours now.

I spent some time now looking for a pack, that contains A LOT more vehicles than TTD offers.

But i really can't find anything i like that much.

- It doesn't have to be country specific
- It doesn't need to be made of real life vehicles, cars and trains etc.
- A slight touch of realism: Size, speed and powerwise.

I guess the best idea i can give you guys are the AV8. It contains a big variaty of all sorts of plains, real and unreal. Thats the kind of thing i am looking for.

But i still need for road vehicles, trains and ships.

Do you guys have any suggestions for packs i might huddle in?

road vehicles: eGRVTS
trains: 2cc trainset
ships: FISH

Note that, at least for trains, there hardly exists anything that is not based on real life. Certainly not big sets.

The original TT vehicles are loosely based upon real life too. ^^

You could always use LOTS of Grfs! :P

Personally, I find that eGRVTS + HEQS + Long Vehicles + BATS + Bob's road vehicles + Generic Tram Set + Generic Cars fills most of my road vehicle needs...that isn't even very many by some people's standards

As long as the scales aren't too far off, you might as well mix and match from whatever sets you like...

I use rather less sets for everything else - UKRS2/2+ for rail; FISH and Sailing Ships for seagoing stuff; AV8 and Hot Air Balloons for flying objects.

If you ever want an industry set, FIRS is amazing

I don't see relation of this question and "Which content I wish to use for playing"?

Standart "demo" pack isn't balanced. Combining various packs of trains / road's / air also don't give desirable result (but this result much better!), because each pack have its own "balance level". Some can be ajusted, but another - can't.

Finally, you tired with testing various combinations of the fancy packs and thought springs up in mind: "Best choice - ONE balanced pack". International, unreal, with model from several present packs - no matter.

So, why I playing now? Now I more experimenting than really playing. E.g.
- write own timetable separation models and play with them for testing
- practice in building more efficient train routes
- buiding eye-candy scenes

But I don't remember when I last played one long game for 100 yers.

You said that almost all interesting things were from real life. So, why are you playing OpenTTD, when you could just be experiencing real life?

Wait a minute or two before you think about that one.

Here's the general rule around here: if you have an idea for a NewGRF, start working on it yourself. Either learn how to draw sprites or learn how to code in NFO or NML. Start a project, outline your goals and desires. You might attract somebody who can help you work on other things. Very likely, though, nobody is going to drop everything that they're doing just to do something you want, with you just basically barking orders. Nearly all the coders and sprite artists around here are completely absorbed in their own projects. I know this from experience, because I just dropped suggestions left and right when I started here, too. Of course, I had no expectation that somebody WOULD drop anything. Eventually I decided to start playing with sprites, and when I did that and offered my work, somebody went out there and made a NewGRF from it. And when I started playing with some code and released a few NewGRFs of my own, somebody else offered me help on making it work better.

No, he said that grf authors are only interested in making things from real life, but his English isn't very good.

Oh. Now I see. My apologies. Still, I think the rest of my post is on-point. :))
