Hello, I'm thinking of (finally) learning html5 and css, however I am not sure where is the best place to start learning.
When I'm finished with html5 and css I want to continue with javascript.
My target is to be able to build chrome apps (I have an idea for a chrome app - sorry, not telling).
Can you suggest any book or tutorial website to me?
I have taken a look at w3schools and codecademy, but if people have different suggestions then those they're certainly welcome.

w3c's website is good for individual elements, I've found
I do think there's an element of trial and error - the great joy of it is that you can update almost instantaneously, so can immediately see if something works.

Re: Learning html5/css/javascript
HTML and CSS is fairly easy to learn on its own, simply using the documentation from W3C's website. It's how I taught myself to develop HTML documents 20 years ago.

The "official" W3C standards are more accessible, then you might think.
Personally I found Mozilla Developper Network really helpful. Especially concerning Javascript.
