Some questions about CargoDist
Good evening fellas,
I've made a nice network of trains, busses and trams. I've got some questions about the orders i have to give to my vehicles. With the new feature CargoDist, is it still required to give orders i.e. full load and transfer? Or can i give all my vehicles orders like 'go-to'.. witch authorities aren't very fond of? Can someone explain me more about CargoDist and how to use it? I've currently made a large network of train-networks, busses (city and coaches) and trams and I'm very curious how to make optimal use of CargoDist.
Kind regards,
Koos

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
Those order modifiers still work, but there might be small side effects with CargoDist such as longer waiting times with full load orders as a smaller fraction of the cargo is loaded when there are multiple destinations from the source.Koosje90 wrote:With the new feature CargoDist, is it still required to give orders i.e. full load and transfer?
CargoDist will generate a distribution based on your orders, so go-to orders are fine. CargoDist will take care of the distribution.Or can i give all my vehicles orders like 'go-to'.. witch authorities aren't very fond of? Can someone explain me more about CargoDist and how to use it?
You need to increase the capacity on your lines, as the default is no longer a full unload, but part of the cargo stays in the vehicle. Especially on busy parts capacity can be a problem.I've currently made a large network of train-networks, busses (city and coaches) and trams and I'm very curious how to make optimal use of CargoDist.

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
In addition, "transfer" is handled by CargoDist automatically. So you don't need to set that in the orders.
"Full load" is unchanged. Set it if you want a full load. With passengers and mail you probably don't want to wait for a full load. For cargo you probably do.

Thanks for the answers.
@ Foobar: I understand I do not have to give 'full load' orders anymore.. But local authorities won't be happy with short loading trains, as the performance rate will drop, is that correct? I don't want all of my train lines to be extremely busy, especially the diesel lines.

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
no, local authorities only measue how often a train arrives. and station ratings measure how long ago the last train left. neither of them care how long the train waits.
Re: Some questions about CargoDist
Local authority rating has nothing to do with loading times. Only if stations are active or not; the amount of cargo loaded or unloaded doesn't matter. See https://wiki.openttd.org/Game_mechanics ... ity_rating
What does drop is your station rating, but that's only positive if you don't want busy lines.

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
Unless you want a real "transfer" and not the transfer/unload hybrid that CargoDist provides, then you do need to set the "transfer" modification.FooBar wrote:In addition, "transfer" is handled by CargoDist automatically. So you don't need to set that in the orders.

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
Thanks for the answers. I'm going to give CargoDist a try tonight. The stations on diesel-lines will be supported by bus-services too so the station rating won't drop too much. Thanks for the links too, very useful.

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
Could someone make clear such thing...
I haven't use the CargoDist feature but when I tried I found a strange behavior of this feature (at least as for me).
For example, we have a line with 3 stations: “A — B — C”. And we have a vehicle with the route “A → B → C → B”.
3 passengers want to go from A to B, 5 passengers from A to C.
10 passengers want to go from B to C.
The vehicle leaves A with 3+5=8 passengers.
When it arrives in B it must make 3 passengers get out and take 10 passengers and then go to C with 10+5=15 passengers.
Really it makes all passengers get off at station B and goes to C with 10 passengers from B to C.
Is it the way for passengers from A to C to stay in the vehicle when passing through B?

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
let's get a few of the obvious things out of the way. you are sure that there were no "passengers to any destination" on the vehicle? (those can appear when you start a new service, before cargodist has calculated any routes you are servicing)
and you are sure that you don't use any of the "unload" or "transfer" modifiers in the vehicle orders?
i'm not entirely sure of the inner workings of Cargodist, but the passengers do not actually have a destination, but instead what you see in the station window is more of a probability of "3 out of every 11 people want to continue", but probabilities might not accurately represent a small number of examples. if you have more passengers, this kind of fluctuation should even out.

Re: Some questions about CargoDist
I passed the stage when CargoDist is calculating destinations. So there were only certain destinations (no “to any station”).
And I didn't use any modifiers like “transfer”. I'll do some more tests and post step-by-step screenshots here some time later.
