Where are your euros transported to?
Hello!
There is this interesting site, eurobilltracker.eu , I once happened to find in the internet. That was last may, to be more exact. And now that I found this forum, I decided to tell you about it, too. The idea of the site is to track your euro notes' travellings. You give the system the serial number of the note and it'll tell you where the note has been printed at and for what country. And the most important: who other people have had the same note in their hands and where have they had it. The note might have been in a pocket of a businessman in Luxembourg and then gone to a holiday resort in Italy before travelling to Finland. You can never know if you don't find out :))
It sure is great seeing hits like Portugal-Finland, which happened just a while ago. Unfortunately my best hit has been "only" some 150km (from Espoo to Salo), but many hits seem to be far better :)
I myself have entered 545 notes into the system. They've been:
201x5€
137x10€
186x20€
20x50€
1x100€
You can get to the page by clicking either one of these links:
http://eurobilltracker.eu/
http://www.eurobilltracker.eu/index.php?referer=11535
The second one is otherwise exactly the same as the first one, but lets the site know you were referred by me. That increases the number next to my nickname in the best referers list thus making me happy.
Come help building and following the tracks of the euro notes!
Of course eurobilltracker tracks only euro notes, no dollars or yens or pounds. If you live outside the euroland, you can use Where's Willy (Canadian dollars), Where' s George (U.S. Dollars) or the other sites. You can find links for those in the eurobilltracker link site.

True. Somehow I thought I had checked there hadn't been any posts about this before. But was apparently wrong. Oh well. Feel free to remove this thread, if you feel like it and are a moderator.Tombe wrote:I think this has been posted before.
Although, I remember once my local radio station spent a tenner somewhere, read out the serial number of it, then said that anyone who found that particular tenner and took it into the studio would get £50. Arguably one of the best ideas ever.

Hmm..?! From Portugal to Finland?

Re: Where are your euros transported to?
Just in case that there are Eurobilltracker users who haven't heard of the recent events, here's some information. The site's been hijacked and its original version can now be reached in address http://www.eurobilltracker.EU , as I've already corrected in the first post of this thread.
You can find a lengthy rant about what has happened in my blog. If someone of you is still entering his banknotes on the .com side, I would strongly recommend stopping that and continuing to enter them in http://www.eurobilltracker.EU
Here's the administrator's announcement of what's happened, if someone doesn't want to go all the way through my rambling.
Oh, and the first post looks quite cute now that I have entered already almost 10000 banknotes

Hey Dakkus, welcome back I suppose?
I have heard from that site once on the telly. I know that the €5,- notes don't get very far since they are used the most and break sooner.
I plead for a €5,- coin instead. Much more durable and thus cheaper then to print a new banknote.

Not good idea to turn banknotes to coins. They promote inflation.

Oh yeah? why is that? (I'm not attacking you this is a genuine question.athanasios wrote:Not good idea to turn banknotes to coins. They promote inflation.

Re: Where are your euros transported to?
It is a psychological effect. A coin is a "small" amount of money, while a banknote is a "large" amount of money. If the 5€ note were turned to a coin, then 5€ would be perceived as less money, leading people to spend them more easily.Mr. X wrote:Oh yeah? why is that? Re: Where are your euros transported to?
Hmm, well, just for fun, I entered the two euro notes I have in my wallet into this site. They'll likely not be leaving my wallet for quite some time (until I next go to a Euro-using country, I guess), but who knows, maybe one day somebody will get it and enter it into the site.
