Newbie looking to pointed in right direction

Post by Bayliss »

Hello

As most of you i love playing this game aswell but i was wondering if you guys (or gals) could point me to an iniots guide of updating everything on the TTD version as when modifying files etc for better graphics etc I'm abit of a pleb. Pc's I can use but as for what goes into making them what they are well then I'm very very out of my depth.

I mean i even struggle with how after looking at some of your screen shots you manage to get 8+ stations in a row next to each other and the funky vehicle stations that I've never seen before. And now i want it too lol

Much appreciated for the help and advice in advance.

I think you may want to look into something called "NewGRF". Basically add-ons that provide new stuff, new graphics, etc.
First step would be this manual page: http://wiki.openttd.org/NewGRF

Then it's downloading some NewGRFs that sound interesting to you and trying them out. Visit http://grfcrawler.tt-forums.net/ to browse a collection of NewGRFs with pictures. If you find things you like there, it's best to check if they're available ingame first, if not you can always install them manually later.

And building 8+ stations in a row is nothing more than building mutliple stations next to each other. As long as they connect, they will form one single station. Hold CTRL while building if you want to connect a new station piece to an existing station that is some tiles away.

Hope that helps!

Most of such stuff is explained at the wiki, it takes a little while to find it though. If you spend a few hours reading, I am sure you will learn a lot.
