Spirit Rail: A Narrow Gauge Set [WIP]

Post by REISCOOL »

This is the thread for the Spirit Rail Set. (Read the original post below for why it's called Spirit Rail).
This set will be FIRS compatable.
I Now Have a tracking tble (of sorts) attached at the bottom of this post.

If anyone would like to draw some steam engines or wagons for the set, you are more than welcome to join.

Original Post
The Spirtliner*
This was actually one of my early sprites** that I came back and refurbished. Currently, this is the only one I have, but I may make some more Narrow Guage units. here it is.
Image

* It originally had large red wheels and was called the brioliner. same difference
** the daily grind set I think (not in progress)

The "side view" sprites look too side-on to me. You should be able to see the top of the roof a bit.

Other than that very nice.

Well, the one with a blank silver part on the top is the Driving Trailer. It's supposed to be blank. As for the other one, that's got roof detail on it, based off of a photo of a Class 50 I found somewhere on the internet.

(Edit) Also I forgot to ask? what do you mean "Side View" the ones like this "--" or like this "/" and "\"

Here's another unit. The Class 587 locomotive.

Image

If you note, I've been using the 2nd Company Color as the main color of Passenger Units. All engines for passenger trains will be drawn this way. The Large Logo unit was made just to see how lettering would look on the side. It looked good to me, so It will be in the set.

If you need some of my sprites of a dumb project that I've once started, please go ahead. You can find 'em here: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=551108 Went quite wrong because the NewGrf Engine Pool wasn't there yet, but I'm not even considering picking it up again =_=; Just don't forget to credit me properly ;)

Good luck with it!

P.s. the Japan Set is almost completely narrow gauge (1,067mm) too ;) Only the Shinkansen is normal gauge. The highest speed on 1,067mm is ±160km/h and so does the Japan Set have its limit on normal trains to that speed; the 683 Series (Thunderbird) in particular.

Just for fun I did a mock up:

Image

June 22, 1994
A two part Spiritliner stops at Slardston Station's upper level, while the hi-cube boxcar at the end of the local train below is being loaded with mail destind for places across the desert. Those red passenger cars will be repainted next year. As the local train waits, a triple header clears the switches with it's consist of empty lizagons* just emptied at the local powerstation.

*It's a bad pun of Bethgon. similar to TTD's AsiaStar and the like.

The green thing could use some texturing. It looks way too clean at the moment. Otherwise it's very nice indeed!

FooBar, Is this any better?

Image

that's a paint.net edit with a 14% noise filter added. I only added a small amount of noise because I think it looks better clean. It's a streamliner. I might be mistaken, bu I thought streamliners were wased at every stop :|

EDIT: I decided to add some more sprites here... so:

Image

/\ These are the local passenger cars. Depending on the year, the paint scheme changes.

Image

/\ Same with the Express passenger cars.

Image

/\ These are the lizagons, both the empty open versions, and the one refitted for grain. If anyone wants to draw the loads for the open ones, that would be appreciated, as mine look like varying shades of mud.

Image

/\ This is the start to the wood/lumber refit for the flatcar.

Image

/\ and this is the file of boxcars. don't worry, the two templates in the middle will be something eventually (Different refits of the standard boxcar on the longer one, the livestock van on the shorter one)

Man, do I have a thing for Multiple Units. Here's the start to the Class 100 series, and a story to go with them.

In 1985, Spirit Rail, looking to replace the aging fleet of Class 80's (TBD :? ) runnig on airport links, thier home shops created the Class 100 out of some surplus coaches, and the traction equipment off of the 80's  . After a succesful test run, an order was placed to the Sawyer Locomotive Works (Look at the Tracking Table, Formerly partnered with Sixpence) for well, as many as you want. In 1990, Open Air bought rights to wrap them in thier advertisement. Further refinements came on the 100's 10th birthday, resulting in the Class 110. and... my train of thought derailed. Enjoy the sprites.

I'm trying to do a tube style train. Is this about right for the roof shape?

For the sake of variety (and the complete destroying of my imagination  ) I'm no longer using 2cc, I'm just making bajillions of different schemes :D . I'd love to show you the 9 new Class 587 units, but all of my sprites are on a seperate computer without internet. I have to use a CD and the CD maker is on the fritz. so... no preview.

Yes, engine is much better indeed. Wagons are still too much one colour though.

My computer is a dinosaur. It won't recognise a USB drive. I'll try making the CD again later but I'm going to buy some routers soon so my OTTD computer has internet.
