Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
Howdy all,
This idea for this site originated with the Openttd Copy & Paste need for a place for the templates.
But this might be what A LOT or people need for their files related to openttd.
So this is a stable site but let me know what you want/think.

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
Well... I've got some suggestions:
Then add a note that for templates newGRFs should not be used..
On the other hand, nice site
I think it's useless, just make a note that for templates, make a treeless 64*64 map with scenario editor and upload it.. It'll take very less room.Maximum file size to upload is 2MB.
Please encourage only png or gif. Jpg isn't a good for screenshotsScreenshot, Mandatory (jpg, gif, png):

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
Could you provide an alternative to rar format for download? Format is not well integrated at a Linux system.

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
2Mb limit could easily be raised.
As for the templates its more using the copy and paste patch for the templates. As a 64x64 map isnt much use as you cant open it and paste from it. Or have i missed what your saying?
As for the format issue these are just previews i dont think it would really matter that much with png over jpeg especially with the crap php image libaries resizing the images. (but i will see what i can do)
alberth its rar and zip, The file format is basically what the user uploads rather then the sever actually doing the compression. I could make them adhear to the .zip format.

Just add a note that 7zip and rar formats could be less used because less experienced linux users might find it hard to open them..alberth its rar and zip, The file format is basically what the user uploads rather then the sever actually doing the compression. lordazamath
grab the Beta 6.0.03 file on the first post and have a look at the copy and paste thingo.. its pretty cool.

I was also thinking of putting the front pages from the startup competition up there. will work on it after work tomorrow.
Will also maybe limit filetypes to zip.

Downloads don't seem to work for me. Running on Vista with Firefox 2.0.0.12
EDIT: I tried it on IE out of spite (I abhor IE) and it worked perfectly. Your file download system appears to be incompatible with Firefox.

Not true. Always depends on the game you take the screenshot from. I don't like how people in this forum are basically allergic to jpg... best example is fifa 08. PNGs are so much larger in size.lordazamath wrote:Please encourage only png or gif. Jpg isn't a good for screenshots
examples attached...
EDIT: BTW the difference in quality is negligible compared to the difference in size...

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
You forget that this is a forum about a 256 bit graphics game, it is way better to use png for screenshots of said game. It's all about the context babyQu@rks wrote:Not true. Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
I'm not completely into the copy&paste patch, but what about no rar/zip/whatever compression at all?
I really doubt that a compressed template file is really that much smaller than the same file uncompressed.
Or: let the server handle compression. IIRC, there are several compression libraries for php/apache

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
The zip/rar compression is for the station templates where they can be in two parts.
The entry tracks and the exit tracks. So you can choose your size of your station.
That was the main reason for the zip files.
I will write a script tonight to change all uploaded graphics and resized graphics into png (if what is being uploaded isnt) but in reality if your using the screenshot feature of openttd its png already. But i wont push it out untill im sure weather it has any big improvement over the jpeg filesizes.. not that i care about mbs.
P.S anyone have any issues with the tt-forums keep signing you out like as if its lost the cookie?

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
As long as you save in 8bpp PNG and not 24bpp, PNG should have smaller filesizes than jpg.eraser wrote:But i wont push it out untill im sure weather it has any big improvement over the jpeg filesizes
In that case, some container format is useful. Allowing multiple uploads per entry could also do the trick.eraser wrote:The zip/rar compression is for the station templates where they can be in two parts.
Using IE6, I'm having a hard time locating the form input boxes. They have the same colour as the background (white), without a border.
There also seems a problem with the display of filesizes. 0MB is returned everywhere.
Oh, and another something. I like search thingies returning everything if I don't enter a string and press the search button.
Otherwise, good job. I hope the copy&paste gets in trunk soon, so that it gets useful to the masses.
Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
Indeed, talking about OTTD PNG should be preferred. But as soon as it's not about OTTD (for example just a windows screenshot or whatever) jpg is much better considering the filesize. I never doubted that PNG is the best format for OTTD screenshots but almost everybody says and probably even believes that png is the king in whatever discipline. Not everybody wants to attach a OTTD screenshot though

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
Some kind of previewer so you can match the screenshot up with the actual object before uploading would be nice.
Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
But a screenshot of Windows (or $OS_OF_CHOICE) is off-topic on these forums.Qu@rks wrote:Indeed, talking about OTTD PNG should be preferred. But as soon as it's not about OTTD (for example just a windows screenshot or whatever)

Re: Openttd file Exchange Just opened.
JPG you posted sucks. Flag looks very bad. JPG is only good for photos and the background in your capture is like a photo. Don't trick people.Qu@rks wrote:EDIT: BTW the difference in quality is negligible compared to the difference in size...
