Bug while building stations
Hello everybody,
I have got the following problem: In the moment I play TTDpatch in the latest nightly in a tropic scenario with two towns. I would like to build a smalltrainstation in the rainforrest, but it always says that there are too many stations in this town. After counting the stations I found out, that there are in total only 5 station in the town area and 8 station in the whole game. If I try to build a station in the dessert, there is no problem!
What could be the reason?
Regards
Holger

Re: Bug while building stations
We could probably use a little more information in order to be able to try to help you.
Did you try deleting another station first (remember, its not really deleted until the station name disappears)?
Which station set are you trying to use?
Do you have more than one station set installed in your newgrf.cfg?
If so, does the problem repeat with other station sets?
Did you count only railroad stations?
Remember, all of the following count as stations:
railroad stations
bus stops
truck stops
airports
docks
buoys
oil rigs
However, when you combine any number of them under one station name, then that counts as only one station.
It would also help if you could post your ttdpatch.cfg and newgrf.cfg files.

Re: Bug while building stations
No Problem:
I deleted 3 other stations in the town and the effect was the same.
I use actually two or three station sets. I deactivated them and tried it once with the standard stations and the effect was the same.
I have 5 stations in total in this town, inclusive docks, airports and bus stops.
Attached you find the config and newgrf file as well as the saved game itself.
Tank you very much!

Re: Bug while building stations
Thanks.
In your ttdpatch.cfg try setting stationsize to off or to a value larger than 1. I use the maximum 255. Everything else looks normal.

Re: Bug while building stations
I think that normally, if the message is "two many stations in this town", then the problem is simply that the game has run out of station names, like "upper..., ... West, ... Lakeside" etc.
Try renaming some of the existing stations to something else, and then build try and build the new station again.

Re: Bug while building stations
Thank you for the advise. I set stationsize to 255, but it did not work. All stations I use in this game arr already renamed. So it should be something else....
Maybe it has something to do with the fishing industry, because when the fishing ship appears, it was already named as an oil rig. I the transparence mode some numbers are visible.... I do not know if this could be the reason.

Re: Bug while building stations
The Fishing Industry is part of George's Agricultural Vector.
It works in the same way as does an oil rig, so yes, it does count as a station.
The fact that it names itself as an oil rig is a bug in George's implementation which I am sure he is aware of. Hopefully he'll be fixing it as he continues with his current project to update his ECS Vectors.
Re the image you attached:
It is in pcx format which is the TTDX default for screenshots.
Pcx files are rather large.
The recommendations (perhaps even the rules) of this forum are to convert such images to png format. Your image editor may be able to do this for you. If not, there are free tools such as Irfan-View (Do a Google search for this) that are available.
It will save you considerable pain and agony from less tolerant members of these forums who are prone to providing flames rather than friendly sound advice.

Re: Bug while building stations
Hmmm ... was your problem that you were trying to build a station outside of a town while using a name that already existed for a station inside the town?Maulwurf wrote:I found out, that if I build a station in town, it works. Re: Bug while building stations
How many stations are there in the game, total? The limit is 250.
Using cht:debugger will display a window that gives you such useful information. And lets you break your game in exceedingly interesting ways, so don't click anywhere in that window except on the X.

Re: Bug while building stations
It works in the explained way by building and deleting stations with an increasing distance to town. But it is still impossible to build a station directly in the rainforest.
Re: Bug while building stations
There seems to be indeed a bug in the system ... start a new game, pick a town that has desert on one side and rainforest on the other. Then build stations within reach of said town, so the stations belong to that town.... getting message "two many stations in this town" in tropical game ...
There is no problem building stations just on the desert side, but once you have a few (say 4) on the desert side, build one on the rain forest side, then you'll get the message. It is not reproduceable all the time, but it happens to me very often while just station testing and not really playing the game and I have only a handful of stations all together.
It is definitely not running out of station names and there are not too many stations in the game either.
WIN TTDPatch r1786 is the version.
Re: Bug while building stations
Aargh. Trying to select the name "<City> Forest" caused problems. r1793 fixes this problem.
