Hi Kinda New On OTTD

Post by Vandango »

Ok So I saw a mate of mine in college yesterday playing TTD and i asked him where he got it so he copied it for me onto my flash drive (We Played a LAN all thu the lesson  ) so when i got home i googled OTTD and found this forum Where i downloaded the latest version 0.5.3

i got it installed alright using the orginal TTD CD (Surprised it Still reads lol) being no stranger to forums i started reading the stickys and was a little curious about some of the "New" Fetures OTTD Had to offer

Couple Questions
In The "Configure Patches Option" under the construction tab The Option " When Dragging, Place Signals Every XX Tiles"

Now How Do I get this to work im Assuming Green means On! Casue whenever i try it. it dosent place any signals i tried a search and got like 10k Results

Nightly Builds
Now form reading the stickys these are sopposed to be the latest version but when i tried installing one i see no difference. it had overwritten files but i dont see anything Different

GRF Files / Mods

Now wanted to explore new content that other people on this forum has made all looks very good but could anyone reccomend any "Must Installs" Im pretty eager to see what this community has created
i did a little search but there is all so much to choose form and i got no clue how to Uninstall the mods so i wanna be carful

Now i would like to say the the OTTD Dev Team what a fantastic Job you have done to re create TTD and Improve on a game that was already a masterpeice

p.s My Spelling Sucks I know ^^

True.
To see how it works, build a long straight stretch of railroad. Now, place one signal at the beginning. Then, click and hold on the signal you just placed an drag your mouse along the railroad. And there you have it!

What does the title bar read in the startup screen? If it reads something like "OpenTTD r11xxx", you have a nightly. If it still reads "OpenTTD 0.5.3", you probably have done something wrong.
You need to overwrite the files in you install dir with the files from the nightly zipfile.

Have a look at http://grfcrawler.tt-forums.net. Almost everything there works with the latest OTTD nightlies.

Installing is as easy as uninstalling. To install, copy the grf-files to the OpenTTD/data/ directory (preferably OpenTTD/data/newgrf, just create a new directory there, so you can keep the custom and default graphics separated). Now start the game, go to the NewGRF Settings window, click add, and add the graphics one by one. Uninstalling: highlight one in the list, and click remove. Easy as that.

Also, have a look at http://wiki.openttd.org/. Almost everything is explained there, including the stuff I just explained here.

Build a one-way signal, and drag that, it will create the same one-way signals everywhere.
