I'd be willing to do steamers (including all the rods) but i have no pallattes, no coding tools, no knowlage of coding and no knowlage of sprites. (except they're the pictures for the game to use)
Wiki told me nothing though...
Explain it to me and I'll start doing steamers. (hint hint, nudge nudge)
Btw, Daylights have to be one of the best looking locos in the world. It would be good to see them in Lomo.
The moving rods have prevented steamers being modded.
Yet in most gameplay the rod movement is difficult to see.
Would the community find it worthwhile to encourage steamer mods without the moving rods ? Least that way more steamers, like the Daylight, would get made. Lots of steam required though
If someone likes to do steamers, i suggest to make cargo-steamers.
This because they have much smaller wheels than large passenger-steamers.
So the lack of rods is less striking.

Half the steamers in Railroad Tycoon 2 didn't have moving rods either, and it didn't matter - and they were much bigger onscreen than the ones in Lomo.
Plus, if we start getting steamers, it'd start being worth playing games from 1900, as opposed to 1930-ish.

Ive played RRT2 more than Ive played Locomotion...and I never noticed that.
Whilst im not personally a user of many mods some fast American steam locomotives hauling heavy passenger trains at speed would be quite something. But then we might need faster passenger coaches to go with them...and so on. Should keep you guys busy for a while
Mods would move me away from an equal playing field with other non modded players. Thats what I would miss too much. I have one mod at the moment...thats a girderless girder bridge (by 'The Wizard'). That allows me to see signals. I did play for a long while with Pikkabirds 'Warship' mod..great.
This thread hopefully will deliver a new range of steamers including a Daylight.
Can I add another thought..new to me but maybe old hat to modders. Boogies.
pmhtuk did a post that looked like a crash test zone. Gave me an idea and I made a crash zone of my own. Apart from keeping a 2 year old visitor very happy, the crash zone also produced some goods shots. The one below is interesting.
The forward boogie has carried on down the track. The main body of the loco is further back. But notice how it has attempted to follow the boogie around the curve. The main body has moved forward and to its right as it tries to follow its boogie. So a locomotive is made up of more than one 'sprite' ...is that the right word?
How big can boogies be made ? Could Boogies have rods ? Could boogies be made in different wheel arangements ? Could boogies be interchangable ? A lot of 'ifs' but once the boogie/wheels for a 0-6-0 were made might they do for any steamer that needed a n-6-n arrangement ?
I assume the wheels and rods of steamers already in the game couldnt be re used ?
