any chance for 32bpp /128 pixels wide in TTD patch?

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

any chance for 32bpp /128 pixels wide in TTD patch?

Post by Alltaken »

just curious about this question.

you see we (i) have been pushing 32 bits per pixel and 128pixel wide support for Open TTD for a while. but its only just been implimented to take 32 Bits per pixel in the last few weeks.

so i have been replacing things like mad with new GFX that are both copyright free, and GPL (will be GPL but are currently under copyright)

an example of my work is

Original on the left, My New sprites on the right

also smoother curves between hills (current square hills scare the crap out of me.)

and finally new roads/trees (although i am not happy with my trees)

if TTD patch can get 32 bit per pixel support (and 128pixel support) then you are more than welcome to use my GFX when they are finally released.

however i don't know the coding side of this challenge , whether its one of the impossibilities of TTD patch or not.

we are slowely replacing ALL GFX from the original game with similar (but improved) 32bpp graphic. thus making OTTD and hopefully TTD patch without a doubt Legal.

have fun people. keep up the good artwork

I think TTDPatch should keep the original TT graphics style. The new graphics look awesome, but please only use them for OTTD.

I think eis_os knows more about displaying in TTD & TTDPatch, but I am certain that introducing more coilors to orginal TTD/TTDPatch is not possible

I would be shocked if it were possible. Also I don't think it would be worthwhile.

What I've always wanted is for OTTD to catch up with PTTD in the GRF and operational features, so I can switch over. But it seems to just get farther and farther behind, as they work on a completely different feature-set. Like these better graphics - well worth having, but not more important than a good gameplay.

Some developers are interested in NewGRF some in 32bpp graphics (and it was a TTDP developer who wrote the first 32bpp patch for OTTD). The people who are actually making the graphics aren't the developers so they don't count

These new graphics work just fine with NewGRF, btw. As long as you know the internal number given to a sprite, or have a way to determine it, you can replace it with a 32bpp PNG. I'd imagine OTTD will eventually get an NFO parser making all the tedious encoding/decoding of GRF files irrelvant. :)

This post only reflects my personal opinion...

The farm titles are really good looking, but I don't like much the streets.

In general I have an idea how to use truecolor in TTDPatch, but the changes would need more time then PBS, Resolution patch, Canals, Higherbridges all together. I can't work on OpenTTD so it's a no no.

About higher resolutions of titles in 8bit:
CPUs have no sign aware shifting and rolling, so it's damn A LOT work.

If the Titles get a more free license like lgpl a new (non Copyright breaking) engine could be written by me someday...

PS: In general your post is a suggestion...
TTDPatch dev in retirement ... Search a grf, try Grf Crawler 0.9 - now with even faster details view and new features...
