Re: Modern Tram Set [WIP Release]
I didn't want to company-colour the whole tram, else many of the trams may end up looking very similar, so I've kept this one white, and have changed the blue stripe above the windows to company colour-1 and made the surround of the driver's window company colour-2. Any comments?

Coders will generally find you, pestering a coder doesn't usually make them work with you.karlneil wrote:still looking for coders , maybe some ideas on who to contact?

Re: Modern Tram Set [Release 3]
Not complaining much, but I would have preferred the CarGo tram, was waiting for one that could move mail. Or goods. But the rest are wonderful! Keep up the good work! Now all I need to do is complete my current game and start a new one with these trams. Yes!

Re: Modern Tram Set [Release]
Hi,
I really like this great trams. But is it intended that all trams are availlable as early as 1920?
Or is that a bug in OpenTTD?

Re: Modern Tram Set [Release]
These are very nice, are they compatible with other road sets, such as LV4?
Re: Modern Tram Set [Release]
That's not a bug, but it's probably not indended either. When I first coded the set, there were no proper statistics available, so I introduced all vehicles in 1920, mainly for testing purposes. And it remained like that ever since.fjb wrote:Hi,

Maybe, maybe not. The initial release hadn't been developed with compatibility in mind. If George kept his hands of the Toyland ID's for his LV4, it's fully compatible. Otherwise, it probably isn't.Jolteon wrote:These are very nice, are they compatible with other road sets, such as LV4?
Re: Modern Tram Set [Release]
Thank you. I noticed that most statistics are shared between all trams. Real statistics would be great if you plan a next version of the set.FooBar wrote:That's not a bug, but it's probably not indended either. That's up to karlneil. I only coded the first version. He took over coding because I didn't have time for it any more.
But you can help by finding the real life statistics of those vehicles and putting them in a list of some kind.

Then it is not. Why didn't you use tram IDs?FooBar wrote:Maybe, maybe not. The initial release hadn't been developed with compatibility in mind. If George kept his hands of the Toyland ID's for his LV4, it's fully compatible. Otherwise, it probably isn't.
Re: Modern Tram Set [Release]
Thanks for your reply, George, but...
If I recall correctly...
...trams share IDs with regular road vehicles.
...no new RV IDs were introduced.
So could you introduce me into this 'tram ID' mistery? I haven't read anything about that in the wiki (maybe I didn't look hard enough).
Because the trams in the set should be available in all 'normal' climates, I figures using toyland IDs was the right way to go.

Re: Modern Tram Set [Release]
I think George refers to the fact that when coding LVs he reserved some certain IDs to be later used for trams, after a discussion with other coders.FooBar wrote:...no new RV IDs were introduced.

Discussion? Your memory must be better than mine then. All I recollect is an announcement of how the world Will Be. I have a feeling the IDs so reserved were on the high end, but I don't remember which ones they were.athanasios wrote:after a discussion
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Re: Modern Tram Set [Release]
Thanks, George.
So 33h to 47h are intended for tram usage.
The only problem is that 33h to 39h cannot be used by trams, because then they would override the tropcial water, fruit and rubber trucks, rendering the tropical climate useless.
3Ah to 47h (14 IDs) are probably not sufficient for most tram sets, for example, the Dutch Tram Set alone requires 21 IDs.
For a tram set to be compatible with LV4, it should use IDs 33h to 47h. For a tram set to be compatible with the default vehicles, it should only use toyland IDs.
In other words, a tram set should be able to dynamically assing IDs, depening on the fact if LV4 is active or not. That's a bunch of nasty code.
Personally, I would like to rediscuss the 'Road Vehicle ID Allocation', but let's not do that in this topic. And before I want to start such a discussion, I'd like to read through the previous discussions thouroughly to try and understand why the IDs are currently allocated the way they are now. There's probably a logical explanation for this somewhere.
