I never call myself a "Hollander". Holland makes up for about 1/6th of the Netherlands. However I do live in that 1/6th part, I was born and raised at the outskirts of the country which qualifies as "the Netherlands" but not "Holland".

TycoonfromHolland wrote:Hollandish people sounds it bit German to me
It does indeed sound German[0], although "Hollandish" could as well be proper English. The -ish in Hollandish could mean "somewhat" or "the language associated with the nationality". The first one as in "a greenish car", which could indicate an ugly green car. The second like 'Spanish' or 'English' indicating the language of those countries. Wich makes me wonder why the language of the Netherlands is Dutch and the language of Germany is German and not Netherlandsish, Netherlandish, Germanyish or Germanish.

[0] The often-used German word for "Dutch" is "Holländisch", although the official would be "Niederländische Sprache" of just "Niederländisch", as "Holländisch" indicates "die Holländische Dialektgruppe der Niederländischen Sprache in den Provinzen Nordholland und Südholland", or in English "the dialect spoken in the provinces North Holland and South Holland".

I'm a Dutchie from Dutchland.

I'm totally confused....

I'm from Germany and we call the country in the Northwest Holland or Niederlande. I learned the following English translation:

Niederlande -> Netherlands (sounds plausible)
Holland -> Dutchland

Is now Holland the same as Dutchland? We don't have a German word for Dutchland that isn't Holland.

Well, before this thread I've never encountered Dutchland, used as a noun (Gegenstandswort), nor did I learn that word in English class.
We only learned that the word 'dutch' can be used as an adjective, like dutch people, dutch language etc.

And no, Holland is not the same as the Netherlands. Our country is divided in a number of provinces (Länder ?), and two of them are Noord- and Zuid Holland.

So calling the Netherlands Holland is something like calling the UK England, or calling Germany Nordrhein-Westfalen.

And like FooBar said, I never use Hollanders for our people, but Nederlanders, because I don't live in one of these provinces. But a lot of people, also in the Netherlands do, so we're used to it.

I'm pretty sure that he's attempting a joke with Dutchland, it's definitely not an English word!!!

Train-wise, i love the UKRS, with Pikka's Basic Industries and the Brick Chain, all of which are made by Pikka, and are, i believe, downloadable either on the forum, or on GRFCrawler. The new version of NARS is brilliant too, and i've heard good things about the Japan Set. I also like the DB Set XL, but being British, i find Deltics sexier :lol:

Road Vehicles, well, there's a few good choices, but the best IMHO is eGRVTS, which has little ponies!!! Pikka's HOVS is pretty damn awesome too, but he never got around to finishing it, i don't think. There's also a few Tram Sets hanging around, my fave has to be the UK Tram Set, even if i can only seem to find a taster set

Aircraft, well, Av8 is arguably the prettiest :lol: . But there's also the Planeset, which is slightly more in keeping with TTD's aesthetic, and Russian Planeset, which is quite nice too. I'm definitely looking forward to the British Plane Set, but it's a long way from finished!!

There's really only one Ship set at the mo, although people are working on another. NewShips was made by Michael Blunck, and is downloadable on GRFCrawler

I also like to play with NewStations, again, by Michael Blunck, and again, available on GRFCrawler, but there are loads of other really good station sets, such as US stations. North American City Sets is a beautiful town replacement set.

Really, the best thing you can do, is download a few different train, RV, aircraft, and scenery sets, and play around with them, until you find something you like!!!

Nonsense. Officially you're correct, but "Holland" is a commonly used term for the Netherlands. So there's nothing wrong with using "Holland" in stead of the "The Netherlands" since everyone knows what you mean. I wouldn't be suprised if the term "Holland" was known better internationally than "The Netherlands".

And Dutchland is just funny word, but isn't anything official.

In the Dutch language it actually is, according to Wikipedia:
In languages other than Dutch, including English, "Holland" is often used as a common synonym for the Netherlands as a whole. Strictly speaking, it refers only to the central-western part of the country, which consists of two of the country's twelve provinces: North Holland and South Holland. Such use of a part to designate its whole, which also occurs elsewhere, is called pars pro toto, from Latin. Examples include Russia for the (former) Soviet Union or the Russian federation, and England for the United Kingdom.
Personally I very much agree with this:
In the most 'remote' provinces, i.e. those that lie furthest from Holland, notably Friesland, Groningen and Limburg, the word Hollander is frequently used in a pejorative sense, to refer to the perceived superiority or supposed arrogance of people from the Randstad Holland. As a natural reaction, people from these provinces do not always appreciate being called Hollander.

Waaaaay of topic here and for no serious reason to my opinion.
And compare that with our case here. Our country is Hellas and foreigners insist of calling it Greece.
BTW: In Greek We either say "Ολλανδία" or "Κάτω Χώρες" (Kato Hores = Down-Under Countries) but always "Ολλανδός". (-ια for country, -ος for inhabitant, e.g. Αγγλία - Άγγλος or (Μεγάλη) Βρετανία - Βρετανός).

I believe the question of the Original Poster is answered by now, so I think it doesn't really matter.

Wouldn't that be "Hellasish" then? (Or maybe "Hellish" but that sounds really weird) :D
