The worst death ever.

Post by Drury »

Getting trapped in a traffic roundabout.

Only dumb people quote themselves, and only the biggest idiots put such quotes in their forum signatures

I found such situation last(?) year in Delft. Oh well. I felt free to choose the direction which I thought would bring me closer to where I actually wanted to go, which was only s tiny piece of road of ~20m length or so.

I'm so glad there's no footage of my encounter with 'The Magic Roundabout' in Swindon a few years ago!

Just imagine it as a circular road, with five roundabout junctions.

Then contract it right down to the size of one junction!

There's one in Colchester as well. I have to pass by it every day on my way to Uni. It's not as scary as it looks... if you're familiar with it!!

If you were unfamiliar with it, you could just navigate like a normal roundabout, the counter direction on the inside is for the flow of traffic to be improved by not having to navigate the entire roundabout.

Basically, everyone who approaches it screams and proceeds at about 5mph, so even if they DO collide, there's not much damage :)

I find that most sane people do that on mini roundabouts anyway. Ever played mini-roundabout roulette? Where 4 (or however many exits there are) vehicles approach at exactly the same time, and everyone sits there waiting for someone to go first? Fun.

Hemel is scary. Never done Swindon but it is unique.

Highways engineers are so lazy nowadays. Got a traffic junction problem? Throw roundabouts at it till it goes away!

Lol, I have a suspicion that its more driven by money - any sort of grade separated solution or even traffic lights cost money.

Im guessing its called the plough roundabout because everybody keeps ploughing their cars into it!
but thats really confusing, and i thought the Thurrock Services roundabout was bad!
