There's a sticky in the OpenTTD General subforum which has information on why this was changed and information on what to do to get the old behaviour back. Here's a link: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=53881

The diff you referred to involves recompiling OpenTTD. If you've never done that, it will cost a lot of time to set everything up to do so.

EDIT: see the NewGRF FAQ in the manual.
Note that this will void your warranty.

But honestly, if you can't be bothered a little effort to find it yourself, why should we be bothered to explain it to you?

"But honestly, if you can't be bothered a little effort to find it yourself, why should we be bothered to explain it to you?"

Foobar - because, honestly, it shouldnt take " a little effort". I tried looking and couldnt find it - its not exactly obvious or easy to find, unless you are fully familiar with the inside workings of the development. I thought Openttd had done away with the need to use a text editor to edit the cfg file - one of the major advances I'd always appreciated.

But thank you very much for taking the time to explain how. You have saved me a lot of grief. I like to think that my contribution to the openttd community are "realistic" scenarios and I am in the final stages of another one. I only do a little at a time, had started it before v 1.1.1 was released, and suddenly found that I couldnt assign grf's to it. Now at least that problem is solved.

Even so, the ability to over-ride the default of not changing grf's after the scenario editor has started or at the beginning of a new game should be a more obvious facility, not requiring editing the cfg. How about in the advanced settings, or game options, or where-ever you think might be best. There are legitimate, over-whelming reasons why a user can want to change grfs and in situations where doing so will not cause problems.

I had another look at the topic I linked and it indeed seems harder to find the solution than I thought. So I would like to express my apologies for the "effort" comment I made previously. I now seriously wonder why that particular topic was stickied...

Warranty as in "right to complain when it's not working".

Removal of a newgrf is one of the best ways to really mess up a savegame

Gues that depends what grf u remove, sofar i never had issus with messed up game saves. But then again, i load my game and change after my grf.
Tnx to Foobar little typ how to change that grf add - remove issu i am able now to test better certain grf on the scenarios i build, so i can test out what fits best to my scenarios.

Say Foobar, is there some way to change the scenario nature? Mean, i build a scenario in temperat enviroment, but like to change it in to snow or dessert WITHOUT rebuilding the hole scenario... .

You didn't have issues, but I did have them (trains without power because I changed catenary/track GRF, invalid track reservations for all trains because I changed the signals with a GRF), so it only is a matter of time before things go wrong.

On the climate thing: Ctrl+C brings the cheat menu up, but I don't know that works for the scenario editor. You can always save the heightmap and load it in a different climate, but that doesn't take your towns and water to the new scenario (but it is cleaner that cheating the climate).

Sorry for the wrong key combo, haven't played for quite some time. I knew that CTRL and C were the keys, forgot ALT also was one.
